just out of curiosity, and you guys have probably answered this a million times, but, since that intake/filter is sitting right behind the bumper vents almost, isnt it more dangerous to hydrolock? I have read that it only happens if the thing is actually submerged in water, but i have also heard if water splases onto it and other things. But what happens if it is raining and water after a wwhile starts collecting on there and stufF? Thanks

To hydrolock a car, you need to drive through a puddle which would completely submerge the filter. You can't hydrolock the car just by driving through heavy rain, washing the car, or going though most puddles. I ran with a CAI on my E39 for months without a fender liner (didn't notice it was shredded), and went through some very heavy puddles in which the filter was completely soaked - with not so much as a hiccup.

Here's the general rule of thumb: If you're going through a puddle which is above the centerline of your rims - either shut the car off - or reverse out of there. If you don't routinely go through puddles like this - you should be fine. If you live in an area in which you MAY encounter a puddle like this, I would recommend purchasing a filter sock. This will help prevent any water ingestion if you encounter a large puddle, and will keep the filter clean.

Bottom line is this: If you encounter an extremely deep puddle - don't drive through it (though this should be common sense even w/o a CAI). If you may encounter a deeper puddle than you expected, buy a water repellany filter sock. If hydrolock was a common occurence, companies like Dinan would be out of business! We have sold well over 500 of these intakes with no hydrolock issues, and we are confident that if one simply uses common sense in a deep puddle situation - hydrolock will not occur.

sweet, that's the general thing i have herad from many people and i just wanted to feel reassured from the pro's themselves. I live in CA, OC. And it doesnt rain too much or heavy or to the point where the rain would even go past the rubber on the tires themselves for the most of what i have seen. Thanks
