We have all seen a few of those shocking body kits but can you get flare kits for the 6'er? Here's a link to Torana Flare kits to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. What would they actually look like on a 6'er? Beats having to bolt on a complete body kit and increases width by 200mm plus.

The underlying rationale behind this one is increasing the 6'ers stance for track work while being able to take the flares off to run standard wheel configuration. The E9 racers ran flares or body kits. Early 3 series racers ran huge body kits significantly increasing the stance. I'll admit I'm not a fan of the Torana Flares but more so the ability to economically modify the 6'ers stance.

fair enough then, if they suit a purpose, go for it! i dont track anything, so even though you stated that originally, it didnt click.

Could be a great way to hide wheel arch rust! :alright

When the 635 was first raced at bathurst it was in the old group C configuration. They were allowed more modifications then the group A cars that followed. The car had big flares for this race but I believe that it was later returned to group A spec. Have a look on youtube around the early 80's.

I knew I'd seen a page from Maximillian:

As you'll see they're M-Tech items. I saw a set fitted on that German page somebody posted the other day with a lot of 6ers on it. I'll look it up if anybody's interested.

The factory M-Tech guards are very subtle. They don't add much in terms of increasing wheel arch width.

Yes, I see what you mean. And since they're a straight bolt-on they wouldn't actually increase the tire clearance at all, I'm thinking. I do think they look good, in a 'subtle' way, and probably because they're so subtle. IMHO

Be carefull with flares as it's hard to get tires/wheels wide enough without them rubbing somewhere else, not to mention getting it to drive right.
Ask me how I know...

How do you know??
Oh, and ZRossa, the Group C 635 with the flares according to the highly respected Peter Simms, ran the 24 valve engine at 490hp. It only raced in two touring car races before CAMS forced BMW to run the 12 valve engine in Group A configuration and the Group C 24v car was way too fast for the Australian Commodores.

that old pic is 255/40 on 9x17 ET 26 with a 25mm spacer and still not wide enough to look right in flares. rubs inner fender just approaching full lock. Might be OK with track setup.
If I'd known then.....I wouldn't have installed them, that's all.
