I have been having some problems with starting up my car which i have posted under another thread ( i believe under power loss). I finally gave up and took it to the shop for a diagnosis. The result:

Codes that popped up:
65 A/C compressor cut off relay
12 Oxygen sensor 1
13 Oxygen sensor 2
203 Oxygen sensor control 2

Parts/labor recommended to fix by shop:
crankcase breather
water pump
valley pan gasket
various parts(o rings, gaskets for the jobs above)

When I talked to the mechanic at the shop he explained the problem as follows: My crankcase breather is damaged or not working and needs to be replaced. It is the reason that my car has rough starts and a bit of a rough idle at warm temps. Due to an internal vacuum leak. He explained that the water pump needs to be replaced as it is leaking. I asked him about the codes pulled and he explained that the internal vacuum leak is causing the o2 sensors to perform outside of their normal measurements causing the engine codes to pop up. In other words there's too much air coming into the feul/air mixture. Said it was best to replace and fix the vacuum leak before seeing if the o2 sensors need to be replaced.

I have been pricing it out against his estimate. so far for the same parts i'm about 50-60 dollars cheaper on parts (which honestly was impressive to me on their part). I am wondering if I should/can atempt to fix these parts myself. If not the labor is around 550-600 ish. I don't have an indepth mechanical background. I've replaced my valve cover gaskets, and done routine maintenance on the vehicle. Do you need special tools/knowledge to replace a water pump/ crankcase breather (which when i look up the part number he gave comes up as an intake manifold cover) and the valley pan gasket? Any perspective on the scope of this project would be helpful. :redspot
