View Full Version : Small fender bender=what would U do?
Well this past Sunday a Tundra backed into my e39 grills (breaking tabs off)and pushing the hood onto the lights (lights seem fine) good and tight (couple of dents too). The hood needs to be massaged and painted.
His insurance is paying for the damage and cut me a *small* check to get things rolling with any body shop.
*I have the right to choose any body shop I want *
so....should I take it to the dealer and have it done right?
What would you guys do?

Pictures?
Have a shop look at it and get an estimate...
will post a pic soon, my computer is acting up!
basically AllState will pay the difference to the body shop when it is finished.

get the vorsteiner powerdome with the insurance moniez and maybe some new headlights
That would be nice!!!
but insurance companies don't pay out like they used to...all the cash up front.
They only payed me 1/3 of what the total will be. so when the car is done they will pay the difference.

I'll tell them pay me up front and I'll take care of it....do you own your car outright or have a loan.
Im asking because if you own they should pay you no matter what, its up to you if you want to fix it or not. If you have a loan then I can see them not paying you upfront since theres a lien on the car.
If youre just planning on fixing it back to normal and not adding anything special Id take it to the dealer for sure and have them fix it right.

you always get an estimate at the shop of your choice AT the shop... you need to get most of the cost first then get the supplemental... any who... you can still get a vorsteiner if its comparable to a new oem hood... you cant pulll and fix it it takes too much work... if they are close which i think they are... get the vorsteiner and have your shop order it... thats how i got new pair of hella euros when i only needed one headlight...

Dealerships are not the best for repairs. Find a good and reputable collision center or body shop in your area to fix the hood. Should not cost too much depending on damage - just a few dents and new kidneys should not be that expensive. However I would DEFINITELY go to the dealership and get a quote from them, and show that to your insurance company. Insurance should pay up assuming as prior stated that you own the car, and even if you own it on a loan, would still think they should pay up front depending on the insurance coverage you have. Show them the dealership quote that will be outrageous, then find a much cheaper place to get it taken care of. Or I bet you could buy a Vorsteiner power dome hood with the cost of a dealership repair job
