Another wheel fitment question

I have a 1996 328is and i am about to buy some new wheels (most likely 18's). i dont mind rolling the fenders. can anyone give me some size limits that i should stay under???? and should i go with 18's or 17's???

I am unsure about the fitment of 18's with a stock suspenion setup. I have seen 18's on a E36 but cant remember if they will clear the shield on the front strut. I have 17" M-tech 68's on my 98 328i with M3 tire specs and have no tire fitment problems. With 17" rims I can not run my finger between the shield and the tire. You might be able to fit 18's but you would have to run a really low profile tire.

I'm not a pro on tire sizes or fitment but I thought it might help.
