During a press tour celebrating the 25 years of the M5, BMW M GmbH showed off the concept e34 M5 Convertible. In one of the pictures, taken inside a BMW facility, you can see a MY99-00 e39 M5 Touring!

andy,

what a find - thanks for posting. can't believe that convertible never saw the day of light all these years! that e39 m5 touring, or at least some other one had been photographed in europe a few times supposedly being driven by the then ///m boss himself. :)

Yeah there has been plenty of sightings and rumors, but before now nobody had confirmed it was made by BMW, and not somebody that threw a S62 in a touring and added M body bits.

ha I was just looking at this in the e34 section wondering if that was one of the factory M5 tourings or not. From what I have read there are 2 IIRC.

Actually BMW did confirm that they produced one E39 M5 touring, it was made for the head of BMW M GmbH during the E39 production span. Since then there have been 2 very good replicas, and many poor imposters. Awesome car nonetheless, but really its the E34 that catches my eye! I love it!

That E34 makes me wanna buy my dad's E34, cut it in half, shorten it, then cut the roof, ditch the rear doors and finally have the sexiest car on earth :alright

iirc it was in a German magazine published years ago. It seems to be pretty common knowledge over at M5board, if you want the article name I would ask those guys.
