Gave the keys to the wife, as I took her rental to work (gay Focus). Getting her timing belt and water pump replaced on the Audi. She needed my car because it had the car seat in there. Don't worry during lunch I will go and get my car back.

Nothing. She's stuck in the garage behind a 2ft snowdrift. Another 4-8" today along with 25-40mph winds. Probably be a 4ft drift by tonight. :mad
Don't think she'll see pavement again until late Sat, maybe Sunday. So for a few days the K2500 Sub gets to have some fun, while my wallet screams in pain getting 11-12mpg driving 55 miles a day. :stickoutt
Should have new upstream O2 sensors delivered to install this weekend. New timing chain tensioner next month, more preventive maintenance each month after that.

Thought about her a lot. I saw her in the morning, but she stayed in bed all day. The 4runner took me to work. I thought about the broken bumper and which one should replace it... how much it will cost... how much I want headers, and how much I want to build up the engine. Then I thought about how dirty she is, and considered bathing her. She likes when I touch her all over.

Just bought a 1997 528i this week that was a repo from one of our car-lot customers (I work at an independent German shop). It came in with a busted radiator - detail shop busted the plastic neck on the radiator, I fixed it and bought it from them. At any rate, I ordered all the lower parts of the front suspension this week (thrust arms, control arms, and tie rods), pass side window regulator, new radiator shroud, belt tensioners, drive belts, p/s fluid reservoir, and a new emblem for the trunk. Hopefully, all will be in tomorrow so I can knock it all out one afternoon this weekend. I pulled it into the shop this afternoon and gave it a synthetic oil change, replaced a brake light bulb in the rear, and fixed the broken spring in the trunk latch that was keeping my trunk from latching.

I sat in the dealership for 5 hours while I waited for them to install hub rings for the 50mph shaking. I asked if they checked the control arms and they kinda blew me off. So I've got a new 335 coupe loaner while they figure it out. :P It's nice, but I still wish I had my 5. It DOES make me want to upgrade to navigation with the voice module though.

I ordered a new FSU last night to fix the battery draw issue I have been having for the past week, will be replacing that tmrw hopefully. Would have had no idea where to start diagnosing if it werent for BFC, hadn't even occured to me that the heater blower resistor could be causing a 6.5amp draw with the ignition off and all lights off!!! anyways, hopfully this is teh only issue so I don't have to constantly worry if my car is going to start. :lol

automatic levelling system clearly still works :)

but as I have the (beta) cp600bmw (cd changer replacement by an SD card reader) I got used to playing my music loud and zapping a lot (it's fast). So I almost forgot that I have a bit of weight behind my back (touring) and it was rainy....:

well, antiskid electronics still work fine too!!! :) :) :)

and then I cleaned the interior. Little dirt from the wood, but the last holiday (yeah autobahn!!) left some trails......

Spent 8 hrs at the dealership today (just like being at work) for FSU, power steering leak, value cover gaskets, and fuel sender unit.

Notice something strange though...they parked every other cars under service overhang, but they parked mine on the other side (not visible) for some reason. Seems some bastard broke my Oakley's. I mean completely crushed them just lying on the floor in the back, at least they filled my tank though.

Replace the main drive belt tensioner, idler pulley, drive belt and put a new radiator shroud on. Pulled my underneath covers so I can do tie rods, thrust arms, and LCA's this weekend. Took all of 45 minutes to do.

today i spent 5 hours rearranging my subwoofer and amplifiers in my trunk, and cutting through the thin metal of where the ski-pass should be opened but is not. Well now its done, and my sub is pointed right through the hole and my amps mounted to each side, id just like to say this is one of the best mods ive ever done and it was fairly easy. I can turn the gain down on the headunit on the sub much more, yet have more bass in the cabin :). Also everything in the trunk is tucked in the back it gives me an idea to put in some carpet to "hide it all" and have a functionable trunk.

My friend got quite a surprise when i told him to open the armrest in the back and a sub was sticking right in his face. Definitely was a good day with the e39. except it needs a wash :shifty

My Headlight Adjuster replacement Story
It was not difficult but it took alot of patience and finess. Having read all sorts of posts and seeing some pdf files, I tried the bake method. I beleive the sealant that was used is some sort of butyl that is used to seal windshields in and it did not take long for me to figure that I had to do something else. I saw one post on this forum where someone had cut the clear lenses off with what looked like a chainsaw. I knew that was not the way to do it.
I removed the headlamp assy's.
I removed all of the bulbs.
Then I removed the rubber boots (be careful because they tear easily, ask how I know this)
The projector lamp adjuster was fairly straight forward. I could see the adjuster. I removed the old peices ( that took the longest time) then took a T-8 torx bit and removed the socket that hold the ball. Then I installed the new adjuster. One key point here is not to snap the ball in the socket yet.
Here is where the patience part comes in. On the high beam adjuster, I marked out a 2" x 2" square on top of the housing, just inside of where the adjuster tracks are. I took my trusty dremel tool with a cut off wheel and cut a window in the housing. I caution you to take your time! Beneath this window is the fiber optics receiver and cabling. Only cut deep enough to get through the 1st layer of plastic. I was able to see everything and perform the repair on the high beam adjuster.
To close the window I had cut, I used a plug that is for 2" square tubing. I had to trim it so that it would sit flush on the housing. I used clear silicone to seal it, but I suppose you could use epoxy also.

I would post pictures but I do not have enough posts yet to do so. Maybe I can make a DIY when the time comes, if anyone is interested...

I have been an E39 owner for 4 months now and really enjoy this car. I thank everyone who contributes to these forums because it has helped me remedy the few problems I have had.

Thanks!

I polished my headlights to get rid of some minor hazing that has gone through the "clear" and blended some scratches that were on the car when I bought it with some minor wet sanding/polishing. Looks improvement is tremendous. Need to get some paintless dent repair done now! Also need to do the curb rash repair on the wheels.

Also tried to install the Peripheral "DICE" type unit and it was not compatible. Stupid DSP.

Replaced the rear passenger window regulator. Wow what a pain. I followed a DIY on bimmertips.com, the top bolt on the assembly in the DIY is shown as a brass star-headed bolt. Mine was a black torx bolt. I couldn't undo it with pliers (nor obviously with a crecent), and I couldn't reposition the window in any way that would make the bolt accessible. I ended up taking the entire upper window assembly (weather stripping, braces) out and completely removing the window in order to replace the regulator. If I had know that was needed to begin with, it would have been a 30 minute job instead of the 2 hour bash my head in out of frustration-PITA it was.

Then I fixed my ipod interface... loose wires FTL.

i replaced the front driver side weather strip.the procedure is pretty straight forward and simple.no tools needed,no adhesive needed.just pulled the old one out and installed the new one.took me about 20 mins.and the parts that i bought from my local bmw dealership for $50 plus tax.which is pretty reasonable.and i broke the headlight lense when i was trying to replace the headlight adjusters and now i have to either buy the oem glass lense from bmw dealer or the aftermarket headlight sets with angle eyes built in,which is what i always wanted and will eventually get.so that could be my christmas present.

Warmed it up, took it to a convenience store a mile away and brought it back home. Lift hood, find coolant leak. Seems the water pump is gonzo. :(

It'll have to stay parked though. Wife's Nissan Sentra goes into the shop tomorrow for a catalytic converter or O2 sensor problem diagnosis and repair.

Saving up to do the water pump, all coolant hoses, radiator and expansion tank all at once. The thermostat & housing plus fan clutch was done last year, should be OK.

Replaced driver's door trim and left side of dash trim. Car was broken into by shattering passenger window. Flying glass caused the driver's door trim to become nicked up. Was already cracked. Got a piece off of eBay that matched up pretty well with the passneger door trim, but the dash piece was much lighter. Same seller had the matching dash piece.

Glad I wasn't keeping the original door trim piece. It was "attached" to being part of that door. Son of a bitch to get it off. It didn't survive. Dash piece came right off, on the other hand.

Then I had my lot tech wash and gas it. One of the very few perks of being in the car biz.
