Shoulda bought a Mustang GT? :) The fast BMWs are all pretty expensive.. aside from the 525 you just bought the slowest one (in the American market). Still it's not like a stock Civic is going to take you.

There's a lot of anti-325 sentiment on this board. Mostly because people refuse to believe that a car with a lesser trunk badge is capable of anything.
The 325 is a great car, and very capable. In manual form, with a good driver, its fast. Faster than 90% of the cars on the road today, much less other BMW's.
Is a 330 or M3 "faster"? Yes....and no.
On the track a few weeks back, I passed a number of 330's, and once, on a lap where my timing, rhythm resulted in bang-on smoothness - I passed an E46 M3. Sure, every corner I took had to be perfect - flawless. Braking - flawless. Apexes - flawless. A mistake, and he would be by me. But I did pass him...
Next session, he passed me, and he was on and started to pull away. But not out of sight. Which is to say, 325's are not so slow as to be left in the dust.
If the 325 has a weakness, it's lack of torque. But not for long. Once the RPM's climb, the engine comes into it's own. Rolling acceleration is excellent, in my opinion. While some cars may pull at first, I've found that in nearly all cases, I can reel'em in. Or just plain out handle them.
So relax - you got a great car. Enjoy it!

I've driven a friend's 323Ci which is the same as a 325Ci. It drives great, and it is pretty quick with a manual.
I'm sure you will have a blast driving it, and while it won't be the fastest from 0-60, it's not that much slower than a 330.

I don't think e46's comes in 323Ci. E36's come in 323i and 323IS. Unless your talking about a e36 323 convertable? e36 23's have about 163HP, and e46 25's have 184HP. That's a good 21HP difference. Anyone know why e46's 24's have less HP then e36's 25's? Which is faster by the way?

they made 323ci's in 2000 for sure, maybe 2001 also. i'd guess the E36 would be faster since it is lighter, but i don't know for sure.

The E46 323 has 170hp, while the E46 325 has, as you said, 184. But the 323 has more torque.

Just looked at the 0-60 times for E46's on BMW's website. Why are e46's times slower then e36? 7.1 manual and 8.1 auto.

It's not the slow, you'll be able to dust out most of your friends. We're just comparing it to other BMW's. It's like comparing the slowest lambo to the fastest one, the slowest one is still pretty fast.

Be happy, you have a 325ci!!! :D It's not slow, it looks great and it's a BMW!

Slow is relative.
I mean, an M5 will own my 740.. right? Point is, you bought a really nice car that's faster than virtually everything else on the road. What, maybe 1 in 15 cars out there can outrun it?
That's pretty darn good odds :)

If you 325Ci is manual it does 0 to 60 in just under 7 secs.
Slower car is the market segment:
Acurs TSX
MB C240
MB C230
Audi A4 1.8T
Saab 9-3
Volvo S40
VW Passat

325's are respectably quick. Our 325xit can hold its own and yours is much lighter. The best upgrade is to do a 330cia differential

325 isn't that slow....
u can always mod it which is the fun part...:D
525 is more slower b/c of the fat....
There are always cars slower than ya.... and more cars faster....

You bought a nice car, is it quicker the the majority of cars on the road, heh maybe 40 percent. Any late model TA, Z28, GT, Cobra, vette, 350Z, 300ZX, RX7, Supra, 3000GT, hmm well I could go on but you get the idea. If you bought this car for straight line acceleratin you got the wrong car. Otherwise enjoy.

There is way more SLOWER cars then this 325i then there are FASTER cars.
TA, Z28, GT, Cobra, vette, 350Z, 300ZX, RX7, Supra, 3000GT
You just named about 2% of the cars out there.

What would naming 20 cars prove? I can name 20cars faster then m5's, doesn't mean jack.
