Seems like it has to be a trap. Waaay low unless the engine has blown up or something.

You e-mail them? Could be something like salvaged title, would have guessed high mileage but the ad makes it seem like it wasn't driven much. There's definitely something, could be a good deal or a nightmare haha

i dont know. it still seems too cheap for that car. if its really a "low" mileage car than it wouldn't be that cheap. and why does it say "these cars didnt come with many options..." but then it lists a punch of power options? thats kind of contradictory and doesn't make much sense. and there have been a ton of fake ads on craiglist in the past year

the kbb and edmunds values of these cars aren't super high. It might just be someone looking to get rid of the car. e36's are getting to be pretty old cars. I'd email them and see

its an obvious fake when they leave no number, i dont know why they put up fake ads maybe to get peoples hopes up

It is fun to spot the fake ads. Up here kijiji is popular and the last few days someone has been listing 2004 3 series for $4000 then showing a picture taken at a dealership probably in Phoenix from the looks of it. Then it is posted all across Canada. There is a different one everyday.

I don't post my number up on craigslist ads, If i'm going to give out my personal phone number I want to know the person is a serious buyer (as in they have emailed me and expressed interest). I'm not about to post up my number for anyone to see.

Ya that's fair. I personally have a fakie email addy for that very reason; I don't like giving out personal info to potential scammers online.

It's a fine line; at what point does anyone trust anyone online?

So maybe not craigslist...but in a classified ad (www.autotrader.ca), no phone # almost always means you'll get an email saying "I'm in Cambodia right now, but if you send me a cheque..."

It deff would have been sweet if it was real tho ha

Except for the colour :P

Is that really a rare, sought-after colour? I look at it and all I can think of is "How much would a good paint job cost?"

I don;t know much about the minutia of the E36 just yet :P

travis325i

Idk I saw a 325 in Fargo that same color but it was deff an aftermarket paint job. But yeah that color isn't my thing it would have to grow on me a bit

I agree with the autotrader comment, I've gotten those emails back before "i'm in canada, but the car is in san jose, if you send me the money it will be shipped to you....blah blah blah"

You're going to run into a lot of people that say that byzanz is an amazing color. If it's amazing, its only because its rare, but it may just be rare because it's ugly and no one wanted to spend extra money to get it :stickoutt
That's just my 2 cents though, to each his/her own

It's impossible to get a decent E36 under $5K, especially an M3

The first response is plausable, but of course the reply shows it's total BS . . . .

As I've told you at this moment I am in Great Falls, MT in a military base getting ready for Afghanistan. This means that I do a special training program and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The shipping can't be a problem because I can do it at no cost for you. You will receive the car along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, full service records and more ...Because it is a large transaction we will complete the deal only by using an authorized third party like eBay, using their Business Purchase Protection Program. The payment will be handled by eBay and you will benefit of 10 days inspection time period and the option to accept or reject the car on my expense. If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping address. I will forward your info and they will notify you about our deal.

Hope to hear from you soon

Unfortunately, whenever anyone on craigslist mentions the military or Iraq, its probably going to be a fake listing. Speaking from experience sending countless emails to fake CL adds. I bought my e36 on craigslist for less than $4,000, 4 years of ownership and no problems.:)

If he is in a "special training program" then he shouldn't be telling everyone anyways.
Especially if it is indeed that secretive that he can't give out his phone number. Anybody
with descent computer knowledge could rip his IP and get his identity if he was a secret
agent like it makes him sound. He is an idiot that can't even get his fake story right.

That color looks terrible too.

Not true, I got mine for $1600. Granted, I don't think he knew what he had, but still.

It needed no major work, just about $500 in TLC, and now I have a near-immaculate car.

Black on Black on Black leather 94 318s (it's for city driving, so the small motor is ideal for me.) No moonroof tho. Gawd dammit >:[

This scumbag posts to Craigslists all over the country. I responded to one here in San Diego about 2 years ago. This guy can barely write in English. He has this story about selling it because his father needs surgery and his brother in law has a towing company and can ship it to wherever you are. Payment is made through Western Union (a HUGE tip-off that it's a scam), using a forged e-bay site. The fact that there's no phone number is a tip-off. Also, the photos look scanned, not "first-hand".
