Blown head gasket (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=17766656&posted=1#), 230K miles, '97 528, and I know someone who has a '98 M3 3.2 motor, computer and harness. Am told it's a direct swap as long as you have the computer and harness, which is reprogrammed after the swap and all will work fine. Am assuming that a few peripheral parts (airboxes, oil pan?) may not fit just right given the differences in configuration of what they were intended to be run in, but looking for someone who's done it to confirm. Anyone? Thanks!

I wonder how much faster the s52 would be in the 528 compared to the m52

Interesting...
How does that run?
Have you driven it?

^^ Yea, suspension has been on for months now. As far as the car running, I just got my computer and wiring harness back so ive been wiring up the car and getting it ready. I would have tried to start it today but I could find my serial cable to plug into my laptop and ems. So first thing tomorrow Iam going to comp usa to pick one up.

Would be much faster :D
However it is anything but a 'direct' swap. You would probably be better off running it standalone.

I have not driven it, the car is a 98' 528i with a 98' S52 motor and tranny sourced from an e36 m. I've seen it driving, but only directly in front of his shop. He did the swap himself.

There's a black E39 with either a AA turbo or s/c running around somewhere on here I remember watching the videos last year.
