So, I bought a 98 528i a couple months ago, and it seems to not have the armrest storage department inside the center console.. However, everything I've seen implies that this is a standard feature...

So my stupid question.. Did they make these cars without the storage compartment, or is mine just jammed shut?

There is a kit. It was available in Europe.

There was a great link here and now I'm trying to find it;

It was about $150. I seen it a couple months ago but now I can't find it.

No, the E39's did not come with a center console in the arm-rest.
As CPar states, there is a kit you buy to make the conversion.

lol. But seriously, it's not that. Just take a quick glance at the first two pages of this forum and check who is the last one that replied. Also, he seems to be just increasing his post count and writing nonsense stuff in every single thread.

US models never came with storage compartment under the arm rest. Only the European models had it. Go to e38.org click on E39 and then under Interrior click on ULTIMATE ARM REST. And if you are interested in one of those arm rests I can sell you one in black leatherette. PM me and I'll send you pictures.

For those of us with phone packages, I thought there was some kind of module in there that sat up pretty high. I know my steering wheel and radio have a button with a phone icon. They don't do anythign but I always assumed I had it...

I just installed one, easy to do and well worth it IMHO.

Bought mine here (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214760) Prices do vary by a few dollars depending on color, I bought a black vinyl one with the non sliding top and it looks great. Price includes storage tray.
