Get underneath the car and look at the type on the side of trans. Getrag 260, zf, etc...

You want to crawl under there for me??? LoL That place is like a swamp right now. I thought it might be a good one sence it has the M50 in it. I guess I will have to wait till it dries up a bit out here. The car is in 3 foot weeds right now and I can't get under it with out a fork lift or something. The guy said the car ran really good and all it needed was a clutch.:confused

Its a Getrag. You can use the trans, clutch, flywheel.

You can use the transmission, clutch flywheel and pressure plate. But basically that's as far as it goes. The shifter linkage is different, and so is the drive shaft and differential.
Those are sport seats in the e36.. God I miss my e36.

Sweet so I can use the trans and flywheel. The clutch is toast.
So still need the clutch master, pedals, shifter linkage, drive shaft, rear end.
Anything else?
The seats in that car were in good shape but the window is left open because the outer door handle doesn't work.:rolleyes
It is tempting to pull the motor and trans tegether and drop that engine in my car.

The oil cap missing is not a good sign. Could be a mouse in there. Winter is coming and they will find any available shelter. Also, the guy said it ran really well. That missing cap is a huge vacuum leak.

you can't use the driveshaft, it's shorter than ours. The trans might be fine but... i'd check the reputation of the owner.

The guy that owns the wrecking yard goes all over the place and buys cars and motorcycles from people at their houses. Pretty much anything with a motor the guy buys. He said he has only had the car there for a month but I don't know how long its been.
This is the first time I had been out there. The guy has a shit load of land that he has a lot of things stashed all over the place. He has a lot of running cars for sale too.

You can't use anything but the trans, if I remember correctly. I have a full 5-speed Getrag swap from a '94 325i, but nothing to do with it because it won't work on E34's and I don't care about E36's.

Clutch setup will work.
Can anyone confirm if the rear cross member from an E36 fits on an E34?

Clutch setup will work.
Yeah, but not something people generally want used. I was considering that to be part of the trans. I believe the flywheel will work on any M5x/S5x engine as well.

True. Do you know if the crossmember from the E36 works on the E34?

So is it worth my time going out there and pulling the trans out??? He said I would have to pull the trans out of the car.

I would look for a ZF not a Getrag. Getrags are fine but if you want a stronger trans get a ZF one.

What will I find a ZF out of???? How much do they usually run??? I drive a manual like I stole it almost all the time so I want a strong trans for my car. I don't want to mess up my trans because its too week.

ZF came in late 91' and early 92 E34's. It also came in E36 M3's and 328's.

91/92 525i M50 manual.
Or you'll have to get the ZF320, 328's and M3's.

I guess I will have to watch for one then. I just remember when I had my handas I used to abuse my trany's so hard racing the car and driving it through the mountain roads as hard as I could and I would go through clutches so fast because I was too hard on them untill I started getting stage 2 clutches for them. After having the cars for a while the gears started grinding on them and it wasn't because o my shifting.
It is tempting to just get this car, fix it, and then drive it while I am working on the 5er. I should have another car to drive while the 5er is being built and repaired. It is hard to restore a car while you are driving it.:rolleyes
