Well i have just ordered new front thrust/control arms upper and lower, as mine are flogged out, and i will be replacing all my fron suspension steering arms from my parts car i have - as they look near new, and my current drag link is getting excessive play in it

Anyway, my mate runs a performance workshop and i will have access to a hoist for a day or so, so i will be doing these jobs plus more

I will also be replacing all brake lines with braided ones along with a fluid flush, might fit brakes from my parts car soon too as the pads are getting low on my current setup

Auto trans service and flush

Diff drain and fill

Now after all that I will have my car fresh with all new filters and oils throughout along with all new (or near new) suspension parts front and rear, including KONI yellow shocks and springs, swaybar links, dogbones etc

The only thing left is mounts, i just read in another topic about the trans mount causing exactly what i think my car has, an undue vibration at idle when in drive

So i will inspect that and the engine mounts

What is the general wear rate on the mounts, what usually goes first? diff, tranny or engine?

What else do people recommend i check whilst i have access to a hoist, instead of a creeper and a garage floor

Almost ready to fit electric fans too, just gotta sort the wiring and thats next to do, plus wire in an stereo amp for my 5.25" splits front and rear, wiring however is not something i have ever enjoyed
Also the RHR wheel bearing is starting to make noises, i havent yet looked at the setup they use, but is it possible to just swap it over from the parts car? The parts car i have is immaculatey looked after, however had a hit in the front end

after all that is done, i will then dyno the old girl to see how she performs, along with AFR's etc

anyway, after reading this topic again, i realised i have answered most of my own questions, and am more just writing this to tell you guys my progress plans

The car already has had a complete head rebuild after a blown headgasket (between cylinder 6 and water gallery) E39 17"s - copies though i think as they dont need a hubcentric ring to locate them, new hoodliner trim, and many more little things to get it back upto good quality condition where i am happy with it

Diff mounts are really hard to check without either dropping the diff or pulling the subframe. Check the subframe mounts, I don't see those listed.
Check for play int he driveshaft, but you won't be able to see anything useful without pulling the heat shield.
Check the condition of your fuel lines and elbows around the filters.
Not much else I can think of off hand...

cheers

I replaced the speed sensor in my diff on my driveway when i first got the car, and that involved basicaly dropping the diff down for easy access, didn't notice the diff mount to be worn, but it was not under any stress at the time

If my tailshaft is worn, i have noticed that the one on my parts car is new, fresh paint and guibo looks like its had 10kms of use, so i might inspect that just to see what it's like, centre bearing too

I replaced all other fuel lines in the engine bay as they were getting old and harder, but the ones to and from the fuel filter were in good condition, even checked the fuel pump lid and the lines there are clean and in good condition

Engine and trans mounts wear at about the same rate, it seems. I don't often hear of worn diff mounts.

Flex disk, CSB, soft brakelines in the rear (the inner ones connecting from the body to the trailing arms), subframe mounts, oil pan bolts... that's about it for definitely-underneath stuff.

thanks guys, pretty much summed up what i had planned, but any outside help with prior experience on a certain car is always beneficial

Fuel filters, and rear suspension components. Check the driveshaft and guibo's while you're in there. Maybe lube the wheel bearings too. Have fun.

I'm pretty sure the fun part will be driving it off the hoist once it's all done
