Go to Evosport for the install. You won't need any extra parts on a '96-'99 other than a new valve cover gasket.

That is a little steep. If you can make the drive to San Diego, I think you can have a good shop do it for $600. I know a BMW tech that would do for a little less than that. I don't really know too much about the shops in your area.
Try not to find the cheapest place because they might skimp on the work. It's better to pay for a good install than to save money and have problems later.

Heed MVEED3's advice, do not go bargain shopping for a cam install. I was getting a 'deal' on a cam install, turned out the mech did not correctly index the cams or the Vanos. Driving the car it was obvious cam timing was off. Ended up taking the car to another, more competent shop, to correct the install deficiencies.
In retrospect, should have bought the tools and installed myself. This way I'd 1) know it was done right, and 2) increased my tool inventory.

Hey Eric its me anthony.
Just got my car done from evosport last week. very prossional job, sure they cost a lil bit more but u get the 'safe' feeling that a reputable shop did ur engine work.
Just msg me online, i'll give u a couple other good BMW shops that can also do the cams for u.

try installing it at Bullet Performance...Mickey installed my cams there when i did my rebuilt engine. I brought my engine to his shop while it's was still attached to the engine stand.
for me....my cost for the install was very very cheap...can't disclose. when he did the install...i was his helper...and he showed me "step-by-step" on how to install the cams. Very nice guy!
also..another good person that knows how to install cams...is MichaelAngelo....in Irvine/Lake Forest. speak to Richard.

MVEED3: I am in San Diego. What is the best (do not care about price) to get some serious car work done? I am looking for quality and I do not care about price.
Also, where is EvoSport located?

Different places specialize in different type of work. For an all-around good shop that even has decent pricing to boot, I'd check out Mastercare in San Marcos.
