Wow, I never heard of this thing when I lived in Chicago. And this isn't too far from the suburb I was in.

Ad is a little strange, but overall sounds legit. I'd love to know what he's asking!

Saved an image of the ad in case it is removed from craigslist.

Thats bmw CCA. BMW NA is on the garden state parkway in Jersey. I pass it all the time.

Oh god how I do want that car. Someone call and ask the price. Along with the address where the car is stored and where the keys are located :shifty

That's not too bad actually if it really is all that he says. About the price of a decent euro E34 M5.

That actually make more sense. My Dad flies all over the country for the BMW National Aftersales Conferences and they held it at least once in SC at that location.

Yeah, a good condition E34 M5 is going to be about there anyway.

I think the BMW NA that the seller is referring to in the craigslist add is BMW North America. But I am not sure what National Aftersales is. Could be a division of BMW North America.

Well, an e34 putting down 450whp I can believe will run 11s with track tires.

He wanted to go faster so he swapped in a V12, yet with the money he spent on that he could have done some mods to the S38 and had more fun.

I do not personally think the car has 450HP unless it has extensive engine work. Cams, porting, and exhaust are all great.. but the M70 head is really crappy in terms of exhaust flow.. even ported, and the compression is really low. The engine does not respond particularly well in terms of hp increase to bolt ons. Yes those are bolt ons.

Even if it does have 450, Does a non stripped E34 with a 450 hp NA M70 run 11 sec.:help

Buy a M5 and mod that. Just my opinion so dont get too worked up :D

But since I know somebody will:eatpop:

It's really about having a car that is unique to the owner. I am sure he probably thought about modifying the S38. Simply amazing though.

My dad bid on that car two years ago when it was on ebay. FWIW the PO said that he cant keep a clutch in it for more than 20k miles.

I'd be very curious to see dyno and timeslip for that car... I'm not buying it.

I am buying that it is a cool and unique car that appears to be well put together, though.

Sorry, wouldn't buy it at anywhere near that price. Too modded, too much potential for financial pain, too much risk.

Yeah, great conversation piece and certainly would be fun to show off at meets and such but meh.

I'd rather have a $17K M5.

oh hi moneypit :wave

Almost bought one of those for 2500$... Was convinced otherwise when informed of the price of mechanical parts for this monster... (particularly the motor.)

ouch

The description is mostly hoo-ha about how much money someone else may or may not have foolishly spent and a rediculous story that BMW themselves were threatened by this car.
The only pictures with any light reveal shabby wheels and a badly scuffed valence. I say it has probably led a hard life with little care.
It's less than an hour from me though so if any of you guys are SERIOUS about it I'd be willing to give it a look. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

+1, car looks like shit. Hood doesnt even fit, paint looks like garbage. Idc if it is fast, it is not worth 17.5k

OR; Buy my 540 with far less miles, with the $13k left over swap in an LS and smoke this guy while lighting cigars with hundred dollar bills.

You ain't kidding. That thing's going to steal your wallet and all your chickens.

+1, I see them for $1k to $2k around here all the time.

Here's one for $900. Has running problems and 180k miles.

http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/pts/1427562055.html

"This is a complete vehicle with lots of good parts including nice 16 inch BBS Wheels and IT IS A V12 That runs and drives I have a clean oregon title, let me know what parts you will need Windshield is cracked 503-890-6157"

I'd love to have one someday, but I'll buy one with records that runs right.

The e34 sounds like a fun car, but not for $17.5k
