So how bad is it on the car to do these? Can it wear the handbrake pads down fast? I tried one the other day and did it perfectly my first time. The way I did it was disengage clutch, turn wheel about 1/3 turn, pull handbrake fast and release it back down, engage clutch.

Did it just once, pretty fun always wanted to try it atleast once! Obviously if you leave the handbrake locked that will stop the rear wheels from moving entirely and you will get a flat spot on the tire so that's why I just engaged the handbrake very quickly.

Anyone else done it before?

My dad did that on ice with his little Volkswagon Rabbit. It was fun. He did about a 720. If you just do it once like that, it can't be too bad. If you just keep doing it, there could be some bad things.

It fucks up your handbrake rather quickly, and your tires love it. You don't need the handbrake to get your car sideways though.

The shoe on the handbrake gets fucked and you have to pull it up more and more to make it work - the actual material gets worn off. Can be replaced, but a pain in the ass to get to. I did a few turns like that, and the other day I parked my car in the garage and put the handbrake almost all the way up. I normally put it in gear, but didn't that time.

When I opened the garage door the next morning, the car comes rolling out. I had to catch it by jamming my hand behind the bumper. If there had been anything behind the car, and the garage door was not padded, my bumper would have been fucked.

That was kinda cool, but I've done far worse in rental cars ;) Picture an ebrake 180 in to a smoky burn out in the opposite direction in one fluid maneuver. Now picture that in a huge Grand Marquis, using a left foot ebrake while bent over holding the ebrake release under the dash with your left hand, in a dry parking lot in front of a stunned/confused Cadillac driver :devillook

hehehe.........rental cars :evil2

Don't do it in your car though...you flatspot the tires, all the suspension parts get abused, not even mentioning the wheel bearings, etc....

....like putting on the donut spare and driving around in circles smokin' the hell out of that 125/90 R13...
Did you guys know a new dodge neon w/ 3spd auto will do 97mph in 2nd gear? Good stuff.

Back on topic though- handbrake turns are good for tray sliding in FWD econo-cars.

The same can be accomplished in our superior automobiles by liberal use of the loud pedal and un-learning of efficient weight transfer.

Have fun and make sure you sign the insurance waiver!
