Is it normal for the rear wheels to tilt? lol I know its probably a stupid question and the answer is "no", but the rear wheels on my E38 740iL tilt inwards at the top. Both of them are tilted and at exactly the same angle as far as I can tell. I ran it past a relative of mine and he said the corvette he had did the same thing and it was due to the kind of suspension the vette had. He said it was normal for the suspension on the vette to do that but the rear wheels had to be rotated every once in a while due to the wear. Any input?

Its called Camber. its normal. The lower your car is the more noticeable it is, but its always there.

Camber doesnt affect tire wear so much its actually TOE that eats tires. wikipedia it

That camber that comes in all BMWs gives it quite better handling on the corners. I BMWs have had it since the 80s im pretty sure. MY dads old 82' 633 had it aswell but before that im not sure.

Its cause it has an IRS.

Well any other car with IRS doesent have this camber. At least the cars ive noticed dont have that camber as a BMW would.

I hate the drastic camber on mine. It DOES create wear on the inside edge of the tire vs. the the outside. I'd prefer flat "o" camber. This is not a high performance sports car like a vette. Camber is subjective. There is no "right" answer. Just because it came from the factory one way doesnt' mean it's right. Many years ago, they would set it positive so that with a load in the car it would flatten out and tires would sit flat on the road and wear evenly. Then they thought negative was better for performance. So I say, how about neutral? Next alignment, I'm requesting not to have the factory spec.

My car handles great with -35º of camber.

Well you dont need to have a really high performace car like a vette to use Camber. On track days or any car you drive with more than just simple back and forth driving will be aided with Camber. And its a BMW, thats why they stuck it on there haha.

BTW you cannot adjust the camber in the rear wheels. Youll need to replace whatever part in the suspension to correct that. BavAuto sells that part to get rid of the camber and to save your tires from more wear which id does cause.
Though I would never take it off :nono

haha so many ricers think that full on camber like that is "Race Like" and will help them win a drag race

Sorry Serge but you absolutely can adjust the camber on my car.
It's called the eccentric bolt.

Ah forgot that you dont have the E32s xD

At least on my 735i there is no adjustement. Thats why they sell that suspension peice to counter it.

Sorry

The bolt has limited adjustability.

You will always need SOME camber. And again, toe is what eats tires faster, look it up.
