Arctic Silver up to 96 darker, slight hint of blue
Titanium Silver 97+ lighter, pure silver
side to side, titanium looks cleaner and shinier
The Chrome shadow paint was used only on the show car and is not available. Supposedly costs lots of money involving multiple layers of chrome paint, will not hold up to real world conditions

Arctic silver is a cold hue and titanium silver is more towards warm or neutral.

I was looking at Edmund's and in MY 1998 (I think) they listed three silvers... Arctic Silver, Titanium Silver, and Titan Silver. Anyone know if that third one was an actual color or is it a misprint?

No, I think Arctic Silver was available all the way to MY 1998, and Titanium Silver was available MY 1998 and 1999.

so the only two years that Titanium was available was in 98 and 99...didn't the E46 came out in 99 though?

Sure it did, but remember E36 two-doors continued on through MY99.

"Titan" is how Germans write titanium, so those are the same. My 98 has arctic silver, I think it was a May 1998 production line switch. So there are both arctic and titanium 98s. all 99s are titanium.

Early E36s came in Sterling Silver (kinda like Arctic) and Granite Silver (kinda like the current Sterling Grey on Z3s)
Arctic Silver didn't appear until '95, and only became widespread in '96. My friend's AS '95 M3 had to be special ordered.
Titan Silver replaced Arctic sometime in '97 or '98

Right I didn't check anything earlier than 95. I was just going off what the M3's were available in.

I always thought this color was sweet. Isn't that the same color as <b>deezbmw</b>'s E36?

go to http://www.bmwusa.com/welcome.cfm?code=Home and click on Certified Pre-Owned --> Model Library
Then choose your year(s) and series and you'll get a list of available models for that year... then click on each model you're interested in and you can individually see what paints were available on what model for what year...
According to this, Titanium Silver wasn't 'officially' offered untill '99... but I believe fourfa's theory about the mid-year switch in '98.

unfortunately, you can only look at years '96 - '99 ... but it's still somewhat helpful....

So "officially" us 99 Titanium Silver M3 owners should be the only M3 owners with Titanium... sweet! ;)
