factory radio question

what will i lose if i take out the factory radio? my only has the cd player no cd changer, the only thing i know now is the auto cooling fan is set by the factory radio, other than that what else is control by the radio? i don't care about the cooling fan function and the phone function(i don't have the kit to hook it up anyway), how about the info display on the dash? like the outside temp, mpg, avg speed..... will those still work if i remove the radio?

I think that radio buttons on steering wheel works only widht, factory radio. If your car have buttons on wheel.

The radio is actually in the CD player (behind the flip-up door). The part with the display is just that: the display. So to remove the factory radio you have to take out both components. The cluster display will still work, but you will no longer have access to all of the OBC functions.

let me know if you do this, I'm looking for a new display unit.

The display and radio are two completely separate items. If you remove the radio, the MID will still function normally with all OBC features, it will just not display and audio functions.

I wouldnt do it but thats just me.. who knows what all they run control via the MID. Maybe even the airbags.. :D

i havn't see any, but i have heard of people relocating the MID to the glove box. would be a pain but might work.

I have a question sorry to Hijack I'm about to pickup a 540i the radio will not turn on the display however shows the time..........could it as simple as the fuse or a bad amp

i dont look at the MID thing anyway, the letters are hard to read, and yes, i will take out both of them, i am going to fit a 7 inch screen in it, so they both have to go, as for the buttons, no big deal for me. thanks guys
