I did the search already, btw.
So my gas pedal on the 540 feel digital. It's not smooth in it's feedback resistance throughout its range of movement. Literally feels like something is not greased.
My question is, does anyone know how to access the linkages right behind the gas pedal? I know that my under the hood throttle body linkage is smooth and greased. Where is there another point of lube right by or behind the firewall? Im unable to find it. I removed the driver vent filter to see if it's in there but no luck. Where is this accessed from? The bottom of the car? Thanks.
BTW: 97 540 I
ps. I already lubed the top of the gas pedal pivot point too. I could swear the notchiness is coming from the linkage close to the pedal but on the other side.

what about where the throttle cable is fixed near the throttle body?

no no i mentioned that this is smooth clean and lubed. But where does that cable go before it reaches the gas pedal? There MUST be another set of little cams and linkages.

A friend of mine has a '97 540i. His gas pedal is really stiff upon initial depression which makes his car rather difficult to drive smoothly. My gas pedal feels nothing like his, thankfully. If you find a problem or the fix for this, please let us know so that I can pass it along to him.

smooth clean and lubed doesn't help if the bushings are messed up, did you read the link I posted?
check realoem.com for diagrams of the pedal system, that might help identify your issue.

If you have an early 540 that still has a cable, consider replacing the cable. Cables with age, will actually wear and cut through the metal sheath (under that vinyl jacket you see) and create a lot of drag or that "notchy" feel. you can lube all you want, but a new cable is really the solution. As previously mentioned, do check all the other spots on the linkage for stickiness and lube them.

Thanks for that. Do you have any idea where part Number 8 is located?
I feel like those bushing bearings need to be lubed. I also lubed the shaft where it inserts into the pedal and there was an improvement. This leads me to believe that those bearing bushing (see part #8) need greasing also.

The cable is quite smooth. It really is something down the line going toward the gas pedal.
