Wheel play

Hello, I just bought my first BMW a e39 540iT. Today I brought it to a tire repair place cause I was loosing air on the driver side front, he removed a small nail plugged the wheel put the wheel back on, but pointed out that the wheel had some play when grabbed on both sides and shook. I was surprised to see this because I don't feel any vibration or anything when I drive. Wondering what is wrong and if there is any danger in diving the car in this condition. Thanks.

Sounds like your wheel hub bearings are going. Have you noticed noise coming from that wheel/tire when driving, like a humming noise, with the volume speed dependant? You should probably replace both sides wheel hubs.
