I have some GC adjustable spring perches (aka "coilovers") that will be installed on my 96 328is soon that use the universal race type springs (ie, GC eibach "pick your own" type) I've seen a lot of people quoting their spring rates as low/high for front/rear. I just thought this odd because every other car I've ever installed springs on had the lower rate in the rear. Now from what I've read on the forum the higher rate goes in the rear with the lower rate up front? Is that correct? Are BMWs rear heavy or something? Why is this? The springs I have are 6" tall and 2.5" inner diameter. Will I be correct installing the higher rate springs in the rear? Thanks

id get the higher rate in the front, because most drops are uneven..

higher in the front because most of the cars weight is from the engine. if you are unsure call GC directly...it is the best source.

The higher spring rates go on the rear. Even the OEM spring rate is higher in the rear. The rear suspension design lowers the effective spring rate.

If you put the higher spring rate in the front, you'll just have a lot more understeer.
