Has any one here up graded to E31 brakes on their car? I'm just wondering how much of an improvement these make for a E34, so i can decide if i want to sell these brakes or keep them.

Thanks guys :)

i have the early 2 pot calipers from the e31 and I absolutely love them. They are not the Brembos. However, the gentelmen that sold them to me is a huge e31 guy and he says that the Brembos are barely an improvement over the early (ate?) calipers. The Brembos look nicer. As for Performance, the e31 brakes are phenomenal. I think the brake feel is perfect for the e34 as they are easy to work with around town and just bite like a mad dog when you want them too. The e31 brakes can activate the abs on dry ground quite easily. they are plug and play they bolt straight on and the only thing you need to do is buy e31 rotors and pads (which are not that expensive).

Keep them, Love them, thank me later...

I'd love to have some but they're hard to find.

The abs activating easily is what is was actually most curios about. Exactly how easy does it activate? Is the pedal any softer from having bigger brakes?

Its not that hard to find them, you just need a e31 parts car.....

The abs will only activate if you feel like sending your passengers through the windshield. On a daily driven basis, the brakes feel like they should. You could make them stiffer with the e31 master cylinder and/or stainless brake lines. The e31 master cylinder is horrendously expensive but I see you may have one. Put the e31 brakes in, feel them out. I think they are good the way they are. You can always put in the e31 cylinder later on.

Nice, i didn't know the master cylinder was a swappable part as well. I might throw these on next week and see how they feel.

I am pretty sure it is. But it is definitely not necessary. You should sell me yours for pennies..

hmmm i just went out and looked at the master cylinder on the e31 and its like a foot long! Im not really sure that it would swap over,... i could be wrong though.

:p1zz4guy runs out side to look:

uhhh, no way does that fit, buuut if you wann buy a $1,163.86 master cylinder for cheap let me know :eyebrows (ill even throw in the $128.70 exspansion tank for free, if you act now)

and yes that is what realoem actually list the price as!!!! OMFG:eek:

You need to put some snow tires on those wheels.. they'd look hawt on your car.

Aren't earlier E31 brakes 1-piston? I'd recommend later E31/E32 720 4-piston calipers. Rotors are same for all of them (324x30). I bought E32 750i calipers, but haven't installed them yet.

Has anyone put E31 rear calipers on E34? The rotor is also 324, so the braking power should increase over 302 rotor due to farer crabbing point (damn my technical english is crap :(). On the other hand it brings the overheating problem because E31 rear rotor isn't ventilated.

edit: fyi with 4-piston front calipers you can use 15" rims, but with 1-piston 16" is minimum. But i believe most of you don't use winter tyres/rims :stickoutt

If the ABS is activating when you get on the brakes hard you need more sticky rubber then you can really make passengers hurt, I love doing that.

Your also gonna need more rear brake bias to match the powerful fronts.
Unblalanced brake set ups really suck.

E34 M5 and 750 have bigger front brakes with the same size rear brakes that all E34s use. Brake balance is not going to be that different

How and why do you have an E31 parts car?

If you end up not liking them I'll take the calipers off your hands :)

that pic doesnt really show how bad those rims really are:(

that was another thing i was worried about, as far as i can tell the only other rear brakes that fit the rear are m5/540 sport brakes. Some else might chime in and prove me wrong....:dunno. Then i might really have to find a bigger master cylinder if i did that

Well.... i was thinking of doing a m70 swap, but now im thinking i might not, but for $400 why wouldnt i have have a e31 part car:D

m5 rear brakes are the same size, difference is that they're ventilated. rotors width does not increase braking power.

bigger master cylinder doesn't affect brake balance. :confused

Are youwilling to sell some small bits off of the e31?

I need a fuel level float, and drivers side front corner lamp.
