Because there were so many contradictory answers about the BMW exhaust system being stainless steel I went to BMWNA for the right answer,this is what they said,"On your inquiry, yes, BMW's exhaust system is stainless steel.
The exhaust system includes a combination of metals to include rust prevention, as well as being pleasurable to the eye.The catalytic converter,manifold primaries and the tail pipe are made from stainless steel. The muffler is made with an aluminized,mild steel.
