Since my newly aquired E34 runs like a Harley, I wanted to work on some of the vacuum leaks like you guys suggested. The air tube that connects to the valve cover looks suspect as it is encased in electrical tape. So while at the salvage yard, I pull this part plus a few others.

I return home, and the hose I pulled from the E34 at the salvage yard is totally different that mine. The intake hose from the salvage yard is straight, goes from valve cover to air intake sube between AFM and THB (throttle body). Mine goes down and under the air tube between the AFM and THB. See below:

Even the pic in the Bentley looks like the hose from the salvage yard. This car had some Joey mods on it so I want to make sure someone did not take a short cut. Could this be from a E28 535i? Is it because I have an automatic? Can I switch it to like the one I see in the salvage yard and in the Bentley?

The THB looks suspecious to me too:

Does this look right? The Bentley has a wire going to the TPS. Maybe I'm paranoid.

You have EML. Totally different system, it has drive-by-wire rather than a throttle cable.

Bentley says EML = Special tools + not covered in book = :mad

What does EML mean anyway? :help

Nevermind.

still replacing any vacuum lines, like the fuel pressure regulator, should be done anyway, also a basic tune up if you dont know the history of the car, such as all filters, valve adjustment, spark plugs, clean the ICV
