Hi Guys,

I just bought this car from someone down the street from me who was selling it because it "needed a new engine." Upon inspecting it, the oil and radiator looked great, no milkshake. He stated that it just died on him one day and someone told him he needed a new engine. The car was clean, so I bought it from him.

I took it home and threw in a new battery. Everything lit up, all peripherals seem to work. The spark plugs and coils had been removed by the previous owner, so I figured I would crank it over and get a baseline compression check to make sure all is well. When I try to turn it over, it does not crank. Matter of fact, none of the dash lights change, so it does not seem to be drawing any current to the starter.

I have owned several BMWs in the past including my current car, a fine running '88 535i. Can someone give me a couple of quick pointers as to what to check first while I peruse the internet forums and wait for my manual?

Thanks in advance.
