Got a 2008 BMW 335 XI with Sports Package. With 225 in the front and 255 on the rear.

Anyone has suggestions on what brand of tires I should get for winter? For example snow tires or all-season? Any experience with either one?

Thanks!

Snow tires. There is simply no substitute.

I went with Dunlop SP Sport 2D's - non rft and they were pretty cheap - ~ 700 installed. I keep a summer wheel and tire in the trunk in the winter in case I get a flat.

Couldn't get up my driveway without them... and my driveway is maybe a 5% grade.

I don't quite have the same cold/snow you guys do in the Windy City and Canada so was gonna stick with the stock rubber on my 2009 335i this winter and see what happens. I never drive in the snow (it's easier to wait for the plows and salters to go by and then hit the road). Should be an interesting winter. Depending on how it goes I'll adjust next winter.

Today I received my Bridgestone LM-25s mounted on Rial Salerno rims. My brother's been running LM-22's on his 328i and he likes them a lot, and we get some pretty nasty winters up here. The Dunlop 3D's have a better rating on TireRack, though...

I hope you don't have summer rubber on your 335i, as the temperature drop will really decrease your traction this winter.

Yup. The Bridgestone RE050A's are gonna be my snow tires. I never drive in snow. I also don't beat on the car except when it's a nice spring/summer/fall day. The first sign of trouble I'll be swapping the tires for snows but let's see how it goes. Last year I had snow on the ground maybe 5 days.

I live in the lake-effect shadow of Lake Michigan. We get snow lake effect snow like Buffalo, NY.

What kind of snow gear do I use in the winter? A 4x4 Suburban. My Bimmer is a garage queen for 3 months out of the year. Putting aside the fact that its always getting sideways on the snow and ice, I just can't bring myself to drive it through the liquid calcium chloride that they spray on the roads. It rusts the hell out of everything.

depends how much you want to spend.

Want really good ones michelin alpine sports or yoko's

want cheap nexens from wal-mart.

any winter tires are still better than none. How well do you want to perform in winter, thats the question?

I forgot to mention that I do have a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks on steel rims for the winter season. They're about as good as snow tires get. But they still don't change the fact that a rear wheel drive vehicle with fat tires and a lot of power is just a bad choice for ice and snow.
