View Full Version : Installed my Rieger Infinity lip!

Well, this was a pretty easy install, just remove the bumper, lign the lip up good and drill the holes. I did it all by myself from start to finish in about an hour! Obviously it came right back off to go get painted, but I had to put it on first to see what it would be like!!:D Obviously I've got my mesh grill and fogs out for the pics, actually the bumper is just resting on the studs, as you can see it's not even bolted up really (just had to test it to see what it'll look like!) Here's some pics:

are you sure its 100% real rieger?

cuz every org. reiger infinity 1 lip is fibreglass and is white. NOT black like yours is..

rieger lips are ABS plastic his is real

Ryan328i
09-12-2003, 06:55 PM
The M3 ones are fiberglass which explains why they're white and this one if black. I believe he ordered it from MMS Tuning also and they're a registered Rieger distributor.

oh ive never seen a fiberglass one...my friend had one for his e30 so i assumed all were ABS

nice job.

i heard all real rieger products should be abs, and the fake ones are fiberglass.

Hey, looks great!! I might have to get that on my car as well. A couple of questions. First, how much was the lip? Second, whats the process in taking off your front license plate because mine looks like it can't come off or I would be missing the moulding pieces?

VOLSBimmer
09-12-2003, 07:37 PM
Hey guys, thanks again for the compliments! Here's the answers to a few of your questions:

-I got the mesh from Auto Zone, it's about $30 for a sheet of it, I adapted it all myself to fit the kidney grills and bumper.

-the lip is real Rieger, like someone else stated, the M3 add on lip is fiberglass, and the non-M3 add on lip like mine is abs plastic. I got mine from KHY Motorsports for $200 total including shipping. Kevin is a great guy to deal with and I had the piece in my hands w/in 3 days of ordering it!!!!!!

-you can remove your front license plate frame, you just need to buy the filler moulding for that space like I have, I think it was about $15 or so, and I believe I got mine from Bavarian Autosport, but I'm sure you can get it at a dealer also.

Ya, I'm just not to big on that. I know they are better and all, but mine are still clear and in good shape and I've got some bright ass bulbs so it'll be a long time before I would get some (if I have enough money for them, it's most likely going towards other mods instead!!;) )

Looks very nice! will be nicer when painted!

Rieger lip for M3 is one of the last few items that Rieger still makes in fiberglass. maybe they think we will buy another when the current one cracks? :D (nice marketing)

if u think it's not low enough. we got some splitter for it too. :D

Beemin 323
09-13-2003, 04:17 AM
The splitter make it really low. i have an infinity 1 bumper w/ hamman velocity splitters. i learned the hard way, i'll only put the splitters on for shows.

I'm thinking about it, but I don't want to rip it off. How low would it be on a M3? Stock suspension.

Beemin 323
09-14-2003, 05:33 AM
Well, my cars lowered 1.5 inches. so you would be up higher, its another 1.5 inches lower once you put the splitter on. so if it lowered it going to be a lot lower. They look really cool, i'm going to get them in carbon fiber. but i'll still only put them on for shows.

mine is lowerd 2.8 inches in the front. i dont have a splitter on yet but im getting the carbon fibre splitter for my kerscher KLM front bumper...then i think it will look sweet, also i think im going to kut of 1 ring on the springs so it gets even lower! ;)

I don't think it will be bad especially if you're not lowered. You're front end should only be about 2 to 2.5 inches lower w/ the lip on.

of all the rieger infinity 1 lips i have seen in my life they are all fibreglass!

the rieger gt lips are ABS plastic and so is the rest of the styling for the E36

the E30 GTS bodykit is still in fibreglass

and the rieger carbonfibre lip is also fibreglass with cf wraped around it.

one way to find out if you got the real rieger is that on every org. rieger there is a small red/whit sticker

that says "org rieger teil"

If you dont think it real rieger, then you should go to their website, and you'll find this part on their. And yes the red/white stick determines that its a real rieger part.

that is just wack if you cut the springs to be lower. 2.8 is too much anyway i have 2 inch drop with a rieger cup splitter and i scrape the shit out of it all the time. cut your springs and i hope u rip apart the front of your car, but it will be worth it because it will look cool for the 1 week u are able to keep it together.

also, my rieger cup splitter and roof spoiler from MMS came with the red/white rieger stickers on them so they are the real thing also.

KERSCHER
09-15-2003, 05:01 PM
oki!

the red/whit sticker is the "guarantie" that the rieger piece is real ;)

2.8" is not to low, im about the euro style you know so you know it cant be low enough :) but i found out that kutting one ring will be to much, after i get my carbon fibre kerscher splitter i will be able too get the pc mouse under the front bumper!

so the new stuff coming on the car:

mabey new keskin rims
8.5x17" and 10x17" KT Clasic
and a lumma carbon fibre roof spoiler and _mabey_ the ac snitser(?) carbon fibre trunk spoiler.

It's not just that cutting the springs lower your car more but they kill the whole integrity of the springs themselves. They have a certain amount of rings for a reason. It's all about the weight and stiffness that the springs can hold.

VOLSBimmer - Are you going to make it to SilverDinanM3's F1 party? I would like to see your front lip if it's going to be on there by then.

KERSCHER
09-16-2003, 10:40 AM
if you cut to many rings on a spring you will have a fucked up set-up, but 1-2 rings doesn't make a B-I-G differance. one ring will lower about 1" or so. at leat on a 320i coupè

i know this stupid ass dude who put 60/40mm lowering springs for a 318i and put them on a 325 TD.....

he cant even turn the wheel all the way to the side without it rubbing in the arches....thats just stupid, but then again he has a SHITTY suspension kit. its called JAMEX and is from germany....nerver i mean NEVER buy this!! you have been warned

Hey, I hadn't heard about that. When is the F1 race by the way? If I have the lip on by then I'll stop by!

The race is on Sunday the 28 and I beleive his party is that Friday. I'll try to make it out to the track tonight. I don't plan on taking my car down the track though. I did during Truck Bash and everyone is correct when they say our cars are made for the twisties not 1/4 mile drag strips.

Well crap I'll be outa town that weekend! Sometime after I get it painted and on the car we'll all have to meet up!
I've never been to a track before, I'm gonna try it tonight but it'll probably be more for practice since it'll be my first time!;)

You might do a search to see what other people recomend for launch rpm's. It is very easy to over rev these cars to the point of just spinning the tires through first gear which in turn means bad track times.

I see in your sig it says see my web site for mods and pics but I don't see a link to your website.

That's cool. I would still like to see the lip when you get it finished. Have yoe ever been to a BMW CCA meeting? There are alot of very nice and very knowledgeale people that are members in the Hoosier chapter? And it's a good was to stay connected with BMW spicific functions.

So are you thinking about this lip for your M3?

They are always the first Wed. of every month an Bennigan's at 96th and I69. Most people start showing up about 6:30 or so.

I'd actualy like to see the Reiger front end but I think the lip will give me a good idea of what it's going to look like.

That Rieger bumper is sweet!

So do you and silverdinanM3 go to the meetings?

Is there any sort of Bimmer club (other than the CCA) in Indy? A friend of mine is in a somewhat unofficial VW club here in Indy, and I was wondering if there was anything similar for us Bimmer owners. About the only interaction I have w/ other Bimmer owners is on this website right now!:D

her is the linkt to the "MAIN" dealer for rieger in Norway.

all of these parts on these pictures are the REAL rieger ;)

but the styling that i think some of you should go for if you whant to be a little differant is this:

http://www.caprizonetuning.com/styling/lumma/bmw/ <-- another great german company. these parts are 120% Bolt-On

no drilling or anything is needed all the brackets are in place for you

http://www.caprizonetuning.com/styling/kerscher/bmw/

this is the onw i like the best- the one on my car :)

this is one german company that has good parts but i dont like the style of these kits that much.

have any questions? ask me ;)

hey volsbimmer.. when u got your side moldings painted and your side skirts painted the color of the car.. did they have to sand everything down? i was thinkin of doing that to mine but getting m3 moldings and then getting that same front lip you had and getting different side skirts. the stock 3 series side moldings dont flow with the car at all.. well that's my opinion. the m3 ones do though. so i was just wondering.. when u got yours done.. they had to sand it all down and how much was it? thanks :)

Well, my side skirts were painted stock, all 328s came that way
I actually painted my mouldings myself, and the only sort of priming I did was take steel wool and scrub them down good
I know people that have gotten them done at a body shop have had them sanded down to where they are baby butt smooth, I think it just depends on what you want.
Hope that helps!
