Polishing the lip on my contours

Im looking to polish the lip on my contours, I will also be sending the wheels to be professionally powder coated, but I would like to do the polishing of the lip myself to save some money. I dont have much experience with working on wheels so I would like to know if any of you have any tips on how to go about it. ie. what grit to use, what kind of polishing compound, how long each wheel should need to be buffed to acheive a mirror finish etc. Also I havent decided on what color to powder coat them yet, anybody got any ideas on what would look best? The car is Avus Blue with Dove Grey interior.

I used aircraft remover and steel wool then polished them with mothers

Could you maybe post a picture of your contours so I can see what kind of finish you got with that method?
