2008 328xi NOT under warranty or I would have this at the dealer.
I'm getting a recurring SES light with a 2AD8 Fault - EAC Sensor Monitoring. There is a service bulletin 121607 regarding this exact issue for a ProgMan software fault but it should not be present in cars produced after 8/2007. Mine was produced 4/2008.
Anyone know what the EAC sensor is, where its located, what it does, ????
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

Curious to know why a April-2008 car is out of warranty?

Aaaaahhh....curiosity killed the cat. It's a salvage unit. I noted its not under warranty because the typical response from those not actually familiar with the business end of a wrench is "Duhhhh....take it to the dealer!" If I take it to the dealer it both costs me money and I don't learn anything.

I think you should have that as a disclaimer in your sig since not many know that you love to tinker with your car ;). I applaud the effort since not many dare DIY these complicated cars, and having followed your on/off posts since you started the salvage project, I must say a log of your experience would be a great value add for the forum. It is only normal that you will experience more issues than the average owner, so you could provide a wealth of information to share. I am hoping you are willing to give back to the community for some of the help that is provided :D.
Good luck.

The salvage project is "finished". The car looks and runs magnificently. I sold it to a friend who watched the progress and was in the market for a new car and I want to both ensure that the SES light was not introduced by my work and also to get it fixed. Per SBI 12167, this is a software bug on older production units but I'd like to verify that is my problem on this unit before taking it into the dealer for a new version of ProgMan.
I'm nothing more than a determined shade tree mechanic but I've been repairing high end salvage cars as a hobby for 20 years. I'm more than happy to give back to the community and have been a significant contributor to a number of different forums, ie. several Porsche 944 forums during and after the father/son project Porsche 944 rebuild from a year or so ago.
However, you are correct, these cars are complicated. After spending about $160 trying to get the codes cleared in the 2008 328xi I finally sprung for the Bavarian Technics reader for around $280. Great tool and a big help.
I'll keep my eyes out for posts where I can actually contribute factual information, rather than simply add my own opinion the to chorus. IIRC I have posted what I hope is useful information in a few of forums on this site already (airbag replacement, linux, drivetrain lash, accident repair).
I'm already onto my next project, a 2006 330ci salvage unit that would already be finished if I was only a better painter. Wet sanding out a orange peel paint job due to using a too fast reducer recommended by the paint supplier is time consuming physical labor. Another lesson learned.
Now....I'm hoping there are a few BMW techs lurking who can provide ANY info on the EAC sensor.
Thanks for any info you may be able to provide!
