On my 07 335i coupe with push start, sometimes when I turn it on, I have to hold the push start down for a few seconds, and my car sounds like its out of power, than all of a sudden it turns on. This happens early morning, late afternoon etc.

Is this normal? I still have warranty under BMW for another 9,400 miles.

My guess is something along the lines of the high pressure fuel pump is about to go out. I've been having the same problem recently, and today as I was just driving home a few minutes ago, it took a good 5-7 seconds of the starter going before it turned over. I'm just waiting for the morning that it won't start. Usually only happens when the engine is cold. Have you ever had your HPFP replaced?

i recently had this issue, my brake power booster check valve had an internal leak. BMW replaced and so far working good ( been 3 weeks).

im still under warranty, do you just mention you are experiencing lag when starting the car and they take a look?

If you are getting slow starts frequently then perhaps you should take it to the dealer for a look. I heard if they find any codes relating to the high pressure fuel pump then they'll replace it for you. May be better to take that chance than have it fail on you while out driving.

I don't have a lag from pushing the button to turning over...but it has lately been turning over a lot (several seconds - 5+) on cold starts :confused

Definitely sounds like a HPFP issue.

I am thinking so too - already been replaced once - we shall see.

spoke with BMW dealership today who said I should try fuel tank cleaner, and run it through a few times? Has anyone ever tried that?

I have about 42k miles on my car, the guy said it is ideal for me to do this.
Also, at this many miles, any other suggestions I should look into? Is there a service check at 45k ?

Thnks!

I had 9K on my '09 335i, exact same thing happened. Took it in and was diagnosed as internal failure in high pressure pump. They replaced it free of charge and now just like brand spanking new. Fires right up!
