View Full Version : E9X Cluster Mod (M3 Needles)

think this is a very nice/simple way to liven up your cluster by just using the M3 needles. I know this isnt common as getting the needles requires a cluster, but I have acquired a couple sets. It wont be too cheap, but it WILL be rare and the look is pretty amazing. What does everyone think? Oh, and its completely reversible.

just the effort in doing the mod. :rofl i've been lazy lately. ;) where do you get the parts from anyway? do any of the gages get thrown off?

Does anyone but you notice it? I guess that is enough anyway, but just wondering.

Or you could take a red sharpie and color them

They came out of M3 clusters. The gauges have internal "stops" so you shouldn't have any trouble with them being off.

Unless someone else drives your car? I had a ZHP before and wanted a set of orange-red needles for quite a while on my E90.

I'll see if I can snap a good one, the rear/mounting portion is clear.

Meh, still sharpie, and it doesn't have the small black pinstripe on the front.

i think the e9x guys are too afraid to open up their cluster, let alone bust out a screw driver.
It's all about dealer service......

A shame that the DIY mentality has been mostly relegated to the E36 and E46 crowds. The E9X platform has some really cool mods to be done...and some yet to be done even.

Its because we are all still in warranty...well most of us. When warranty is over, DIY modding will pick up...E46 was the same way.

+1, most people are worried about voiding their warranties and many are probably leasing. Things are already starting to change now that more cars are out of warranty and old leases being picked up in auctions. Rule of thumb on this forum, be patient :).

I'm still in warranty, but the first years of a cars life are it's best. I want to enjoy them with my own personal touches before I have to worry about replacing maintenance/wear items.

Digging the mod man, but I think it will be even better if the manual cluster ring is available rather then those DCT ones.

Wow this made me want to do that M3 cluster conversion. Can't you replace the M3 face plate onto the non-M one?

Yes, the gauge faces are interchangeable, but obviously the measurements would be way off, haha. PM sent.

More important that swapping needles would be to dump the silly MPG gauge for a temperature gauge!
