View Full Version : Help! Car stalling at idle!

So I attempted to start my car today after it was sitting for maybe 2 hours. There were no problems when I parked and I did not beat on the car but when I attempted to start the car, my battery was dead (not sure if this has anything to do with the issue). After attempting to jump the car, it has been idling very rough, making a banging sound and then stalling out.

Here is a video:

The car is turbocharged but the maf is in the stock location. Another interesting fact is that when the car attempts to idle, my vacuum gauge, which is coming off of my brake booster line reads 0 vacuum and barely moves from there.

Originally, I thought maf or vacuum leak. I replaced the maf with a known working one and could not find any boost leaks. The only other things I can think of would be coil packs, spark plugs, or injectors. Its almost like something is misfiring but I cannot tell.

Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm in need of help!

Bump the Idle control valve line? I am sure you checked already...

Yeah, check those lines but I am going to take another look tomorrow at everything, could this be a stuck icv symptom?

ok, so i got the car idling now but the idle wanders and it still sounds like an intake leak. I've checked all the lines and everything post maf and I cannot find any cracks or leaks anywhere. Does anyone know of any common areas for intake leaks that are harder to notice?

How about cleaning your ICV?

my car would suffer from a bouncing idle and then eventually stall....it was a bad MAF

I tried cleaning the ICV but that didnt help. However heres something strange. I just started the car and it idles perfectly. It does not even bounce when I put in the clutch and let the revs drop. We'll see if it starts in the morning.

Try Lucas or Gumout in the gas tank

The gumout is not a bad idea, I was thinking it could be injector problems. I have 42lb injectors that were tested so I may swap those in. The car ran fine for a few days but as soon as it rained again, the engine started running rough. Could it be water getting in somewhere? Or possible a hairline crack on an intake hose that is being affected by humidity? I can't figure out why raining has anything to do with the idle....could just be a strange coincidence.
