my brother just bought a 99 540i 6 speed and it doesnt have bi xenons obviously, he was wondering if he could change the high beam bulb to something that would look similar to xenon without having to change the whole housing( if that is correct term). any help is appreciated

Hoens are supposed to be good looking if that's what's you're going for. Silverstars also, but I've heard they burn out quickly.

The term bi-xenons doesn't mean that your high bean is a xenon. It means that when you turn your high beams on the solenoid in the low beam xenon lifts up to remove the cutoff thus allowing the xenon to shine free. All he needs to do if he wants bi-xenon is to replace his current xenon projector w/ a bixenon one. But I think there is more to it than that....

So, while we are on the topic I have a question about what headlights are in my car. I replaced the outside lenses with clear corners last night (looks SO much better on a silver car). The headlights that are in this 2000 540-6 are fairly conventional looking high beams but the lows have a transformer attached and the light itself has a rather unusual looking round lense. These lights emit a somewhat bluish light. So what is this called?

Tahoe, those are Xenon's. The transformer is called a ballast.

If all you are looking for is the "look", then you cheapest option would be to get the blue colored film for you headlights. My good friend and racecar sponsor Chris from www.lamin-x.com can hook you up. Also, the material will offer some good protection againts everything except for wrecking :)

I haven't taken pics yet but I covered the amber part of my taillights with the smoked. I don't think they look at good as clears, but for the cost, they look pretty freaking cool
