anyone used a helicoil kit to repair a stripped oil pan?

bout to use a helicoil with some loctite, or some gasket maker and repair, then flush the engine.

anyone done this before?
any pointers?

not the oil pan...but i helicoiled a sparkplug hole...my only advice here is make sure you have something to retrieve the helicoil in the event it drops in...yes it happened to me..and yes it was a PITA to remove...but after a little ingenuinuity and 3 days of patience, i got it out...but you really shouldn't need loctite...matter of fact that would scare me in the event that things got way too hot for any reason and it fused the helicoil in there are softened enough to alter the fitment of the helicoil insert...the helicoil should be more than enough. If not, then you probably want another oil pan....GL!!!

Wow an oil pan may be 'iffy.' If it is stripped I would first try a rubber expandable drain plug. NAPA, or Car Quest will have them. I have seen them used with very good results.

I agree with kevin in the above post...I completely forgot about those...may be your best bet!

but wait, they look as if they wouldn't fit as they have a design that would not permit them to fit into the recessed hole of the oil pan bolt. there's the nubbin on the tip but then there's a larger flat cylinder type thing that houses the turny mechanism, will it fit into the recessed hole?

Take your plug and compare them. They are sold by size, not application.
