Build Plates and Reunification

This question popped into my head and now I can't stop thinking about it:

When Germany reunified on October 3, 1990, did the build plates change from saying West Germany to Germany at the same time or was there some overlap?

I don't know for sure, but I would imagine there was some overlap because most of the time the VIN is assigned to a car before it's even built.

It says the build date on the sticker inside the driver's side door jamb. Maybe a few owners who have cars built around that time could post what theirs say.

As for individual parts that say "Made in W. Germany" I would assume they just used all the parts up and when they reordered from X manufacturer they said "Made in Germany".
