PRND321 lights

my dash lights for the auto trans gear selector burned out so I replaced the bulb and now it lights up, but only for about 10 sec. then it goes out. If I shut off the car and turn it back on, it will come back on for 10 sec then go out again.

What could be the problem with this and what are some of the first things I should check? The gear selector DOES work, if I move it within the first 10 sec, it will show the right gear.

The actual gear selector switch probably needs cleaning. If your DIY then its easy.

I cleaned my gear selector switch last Saturday and the result is, that even my pass side rear view mirror dips down again when I select R, that is included in the seat and mirror memory system.
That switch was dirty like hell, I am surprised that I was not getting a trans program fault.

While you do that, also disassemble the switch for the gear mode, easy job, clean it, all will be fine.

Ok, thanks for the tip.
I'll get that out and start cleaning it. It does look pretty nasty down there.

Is it really still a possibility, though? As I said above, while it's lit, if I change the gear, it shows the correct gear on the dash- but then the light goes out. I guess I'll find out soon. :)

Also check for a loose connection or broken wire insulation feeding the light.

I checked the wires and cleaned the gear selector switch and they still go out. The car hasn't been running in a while, but this is accompanied by a "TRANS PROGRAM" error, which seems odd as the car hasn't even been started in a while.

Any other ideas? :)

bad reader, or poor connection on the trans computer itself.

Your cluster isn't seeing the gear selector, which is why it shuts the display off after 10 seconds.

that requires seat and mirror memory module. if you want to change you need memory seat driver side, 2 new memory mirrors, the cable looms, and even the switch for the mirrors is different although it looks the same, different number of pins.
