I figure when it's dark out (when I go to work) I charge.....when I drive home, I use battery. Would be nice to just hard wire it though....:(

lol. I only rarely ever use GPS in my car ( have it mounted like that) and when I do use it I'm always tinkering with it and I like to have right near the steering wheel where I don't have to stretch across the dash. I used to mount it off the driver center vent grill via an eBay-bought mount. That worked fine for like 2 seconds of driving.
If I get the 540s XXL then I will do your mod. I'm also considering just upgrading everything to the OEM Nav MK4 BM53
