My car overheated a few months ago and I parked it until last month.
I finally took my car to the mechanic and this is what the problem is.

I have a cracked head. I also have a pitted cylinder wall. He told me that it would be too risky based on the damage to the cylinder wall to just get a new head and bolt it on.

So now I need options and prices because I start working at Best Buy this Friday and I will need a car soon. ( I am currently driving a 1980 Mercury Capri 3.3l and it wont pass smog)

I really dont want to spend more than $700 if possible. If anyone has an engine near Salinas, CA I will consider buying it. Also if anyone wants to buy it I will sell it for $900 OBO.

The car is a complete sedan with a fresh paint job. Interior is in good condition and it has a good sound system. New tires but it will need suspension upgrades likes shock and possibly control arms.

Please help!:help

Sorry to hear about that. Instead of putting money into this car how much would it take to fix that Capri just for the time being. I love those cars. Expecially the first ones.

On the brite side: your mechanic is totally correct about the damage to the cylinder wall. Sounds like an honest guy. Keep him. There are plenty of mechanics that would have just bolted on a new head and waited for you to return so they could make more off you.

He is an ex bmw employee in germany and he does knows his stuff. My brother just bought an E30 87 coupe with an m42 engine with 65k with the plastic bumpers for $3200. The capri needs a new cylinder head I have bad compression on two cylinders. I might do that work myself and see if I can get it to pass smog for the time being.
