Has anyone else done the one-ball exhaust mod on thier R53? I did it and didn't notice that the exhaust was all that much louder. I kida expected more noise. I do like the new cackle on the downshifts. If anyone else has any info about this mod or any other cheap mods. please post.

It will only increase the noise a bit. I love mine as it doesn't drone like so many others and the noise at wide open throttle is nice not irritating.

Lots you can do, but the best bang for the buck is the smaller pulley on the SC. Instant power and fairly easy to do. If you are not comfortable with working on the car, get a local mech familiar with the MINI. Shouldn't be too hard now a days.

You might also want to check out www.motoringalliance.com for more info. Great bunch of guys all willing to help. Just put me down as a referral when signing up!

What kind of tune is required with the pulley upgrade? Cost?

It depends on how aggressive a pulley reduction you want.
Most people opt for 15% reduction as it would be within the parameters pf the stock ECU programming. You might consider a reduced length accessory belt, but nothing else is really necessary. Most would, however, recommend a cold-air-intake and exhaust to go with that and would essentially be similar to MINIs JCW kit. Anything much more than 15% and you might need to consider more changes due to the added heat. Bigger fuel injectors, ECU reprogram come to mind.

The pulley itself is pretty inexpensive. If you do it when your car is in for routine service anyways (Inspection 2) where the belt gets changed anyways, the labor is essentially free. I think a pulley change itself takes about an hour's labor if done by somebody who has the right tools.

Along with the pulley upgrade, I might urge you to consider some minor suspension upgrades too. Brakes come to mind. I also added a thicker rear swaybar. Actually, I started with the rear swaybar before I installed my pulley.
