View Full Version : I've got my ignition tumbler out. Is it broke?

After researching numerous threads, I'm still confused. How can I tell if the tumbler has failed. With the ignition tumbler out, the key still spins freely for about ~ 120 degrees. If I put pressure on the large metal tab, I can feel the 3 clicks that the normal operation is supposed to have. There is no spring return from the start position.

Is the tumbler bad? If so what has failed and can it be fixed?

The trick for me getting out the tumbler was to use a large straightened paper clip and when it slid into proper position, I had to put some pressure on it to push it in ~ 1/2 inch more. The tumbler then slid out easily.

Thanks,

Erik

The spring return is in the red ignition switch. It sounds like your tumbler is ok.

Thanks flyfish. Guess I'll just replace both and hopefully be done with it.

^Unless something else changes it will break again.

I went away from the tumbler and switch all together. Lucky for us we have EWS-II and can maintain the security.
