Car won't Start in Park but will in Neutral

I own a 2001 Sport 740IL and I'm having a problem starting the car in park, however, it will start in neutral. Does anyone know how to rectify this problem? Any advice would be appreciated.

It's likely a bad neutral safety switch. It tells your car's computer that the car is not in a drive gear ans is safe to start.

I had this same problem before and my mechanic said its the switch that is the problem.

neutral safety switch is either around the shifter or transmission if i recall right, somebody confirm it
