Anyone tried it? I have an opportunity to pick up a 3.91 lsd for $100. Practical or not?

its definitely a blast. fake torque is very much ftw. lsd will make it even better. my 3.91 is getting on up there in miles...i'm tempted to just weld it on up for some srs fun.

I dont like it honestly. I kept my diff from when I did the tranny swap and I dislike freeway driving. At 70 mph, im around 3.9k rpm. I can only hit 105 before the gauge hits redline .

Ill be picking up a 3.15 open ($$$ is the problem :() real soon so I can commute to school everyday. Other than the freeway driving, I love it on the streets, take EVERYONE off the start :D. BUT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THE GAS!!!! All bullshit aside, I hit a quarter tank a day!!!

EDIT: nvm I just realized you said 3.91 LSD........ fail

I would do it if you only drive on the highway every now and then. I still have my 3.91 LSD in after my manual swap and I think it's great. You can still pass 120 with the 3.91. If you ever want to go that fast.:devillook

EDIT: Gas isnt too much of a problem either. I still get around 50-100 more city miles per tank than the auto depending on how I drive.

I have a 3.91 open diff. Its fun as hell but even going from 1st to 2nd will roast your tires if your not careful.

+1 I have pretty good tires and I have traction issues even in light rain. When you're trying to you can chirp third pretty easy too.

I had an open diff for a few months then picked up the 3.91 lsd. Along with what everyone else said here, the fake torque is fun.

I just drove to Buffalo and back (6-7 hours), and it really wasn't all that bad. I'd probably shoot myself if I didn't have music though.

Pegged at 75, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

there was a ratio chart posted here once (spreadsheet)

tire size will make a difference and using 235/45 17":

around 4150rpm for 80mph and 138.75mph at 7200rpm.

I think I might give it a try. It's only $100. If I don't like it, I can just sell it the next day for $200.

Yeah yeah, win win scenario there. If you don't like it pass it on to one of your bF.c comrades. You can't beat 100bills for it, and no one will begrudge buying it for 200 the next day. Let us know how swapping it out goes.

It will also keep you from speeding on the highway. :eyecrazy
I always thought that a 3.91 is a good street gear if your a stop light warrior.
Like the others said, a 100 bucks is a no brainer.

For that price its like a sore dick, you cant beat it. Look at it as an investment if you dont likey.

I have one, need someone to trade me for a 3.15 haha.

1st gear ya, just about nothing. Gas mileage, i get about 22 city/25 highway, it sucks. My 325ti has a 2.93 in it and I got about 25/35, which was awesome.

I don't have that problem with the 3.91 LSD, but I am also running 245s out back...then again looks like you are as well.
