Ok so I just bought a new battery and put in my car and it works great. I also went to install my alpine stereo receiver and completely messed up, cut the wiring harness crimped and crimped and crimped some more(wasn't the first time installing the receiver, I had installed it in my eclipse before) and what do you know it doesn't work and wasn't nearly as easy as my first install either. It was getting late so I just kept the new fabricated ghetto harness plugged in and pushed the receiver into the dash so at least it looked like it worked. Now when I turn off my car it acts as if it is in position 1 all the time. The OBC doesn't turn off and the mileage etc. stays illuminated until the battery is dead. I need help! I am going to buy a new harness and fix my install the RIGHT way tomorrow by the way.

You need a Bentley Manual. It has all the wiring diagrams for the different stereo options that were available.

I downloaded the torrent and printed off the diagram but there were a few errors, I should of just bought a harness and did a plug and play quick job but there were none at a local shop and I didn't want to go into town searching for a harness that would essentially cost me more money than without using one. Now I have a huge pile of shitty work that I have to TRY and fix tomorrow, if I can't then I guess I'll have to take it to BMW or a professional shop but probably BMW because I cut the stupid harness.

The Bentley manual has all the correct wires for the plugs. The color codes they list to some of the speakers may be different but its only the speaker wires. You've done this before so it should be a piece of cake to figure which wire goes to which speaker. Good luck.

Yeah man what gave me the problem was the thick black cable that went into the stock harness, I know the other thick black one is the cd changer, but I couldn't find out what in the world that other thick black cable did. I thought it was just a thick cable and I cut it, turns out there are like 6-8 smaller different colored wires inside it with loose wires around all the smaller colored wires. Just as soon as I cut it I knew it wasn't going to work right.
