I have a set of Style M68 staggered wheels.

fronts are 7 1/2 x 17

rears are 8 1/2 x 17

what are your thoughts on running 225/45/17 tires all around?

My fathers E46 had 225 all around on it. You could tell that the rears where wider because the rim lip was exposed more then the front. If I recall the back need 245/40/17 tires. Yes it fits but to me it looks bad

Okay so everyone keeps telling me I need.

225/45/17 for the front

and

245/40/17 for the rears.

but I think people are referring to the E36 M3 staggered wheels such as the DSII's.

but I have the M68 style staggered wheels from an E46 sport package.

So do these (DSII's and style M68) have the same offset? Will that affect the tire size i need?

The offset for the E46 M68 wheels

are

41mm for the fronts

and

50mm for the rears.

so is this the same offset as the E36 staggered wheels (DSII's) ?

Check out this website.

From what I see, the offset for OEM M3 wheels is 41 front and rear. The widths are different, but the offset remains the same. There was a thread recently that had pics of these very same wheels on e36's.

So uhh, you started another thread on the same subject?
Why?

Because right now I have 17" wheels on that have 205/50/17 and the guy who put them on at the told me that they barely fit.

The problem is that they are 205/50/17
Run 225/40/17 or 225/35/17 and you will not have any rubbing issues at all.

I run 235/40 on same size wheels you're considering. Little bit of stretch in the back, but it's fine really.

Next set, I'll probably be going 225/45 front, 245/40 back.

Anyone have a pic of a 225/45 tire on a 8.5" rim? I'm interested in how strange it looks.
