Hello, i read that holding down the DSC button until the word "Brake" appears disables the seatbelt gong??? Does anyone know if this is true in a 2009 335i coupe? and if it does work, is it permanent or do you need to do this each time you get in the car?

Thanks everyone in advance.

Never heard of that. Are you sure there isn't a special witch dance you have to do before that works, the Germans never make it that easy.

Maybe i misread something but it was posted in a closed thread.

Sorry, i misread from that thread bc they were discussing turning off the seatbelt gong and traction control in the same thread.

So, does anyone know where to find a "dummy" seatbelt tongue? I'm scouring the net and ebay. Can't find one. Appreciate any help with finding one for my coupe.

Thanks.

PS I do wear my seatbelts (sometimes) :)

I never wore my seatbelt before I got my 325i. I am really glad the gong is impossible, as I now click in without even noticing anymore. BMW ftw!

I got a girlfriend having a battle of wills with the car over this very issue. You think she'd give up on that one. Especially when the car is the only thing more capable of rattling on more incessantly than a politician on the same subject. The only poor bystander on the subject is me, and the ringing in my ears. Anyone have a secert to overcome a strong willed girlfriend taking on a car that is considerate enough to hand you a belt and then gripe at you until you put it on?
Apparantly having a sarcastic sense of humor and a few snarky comments doesn't solve the problem. I'm afraid of the consequences of getting serious on the subject. I already use the stereo to quell the yelling when I drive fast, perhaps it has more than one application...

i've never heard of that either. i always thought you cannot get rid of that gong and that it's permanent :dunno. the only way i know of disabling it is to get a spare seat belt buckle. you can put that spare buckle in to make the car think you're wearing your seat belt when the chime goes off.

I have a solution for you, but it will also test your relationship :D:
Brake hard in the parking lot and get her to hit her head on something, she will learn to put the seatbelt on all the time :evil2. I accidentally did that and my wife (fiance back then) knocked off my rear view mirror with her head. Needless to say she wears her seatbelt ever since. Luckily she didn't break up with me and the mirror popped right back in ;).

Please explain to me why anyone would want to do this? The only time it is irritating to me is if my dog is in the front seat or I have a package there. In those cases, I simply click the belt in behind the dog or the package (or even in front of the package)! Takes like 5 seconds to do. If the purpose is to not wear a belt (which it wasnt stated as such so I dont know but can surmise), well I hope that person has their own medical insurance just in case.

There has to be a way to disable the chime through the GT1 (or replacement), it has the power to just about anything on the car haha. I'd love to have this done, even though I wear my seatbelt. It's annoying to drive the car into the garage from the street and have it ding at you for 20 feet.

I can see several reasons why it is annoying:

If you move cars in a parking lot, it can be annoying as hell.
If you don't click in before you turn the car on, it is mildly annoying until you click it, mind you this is before you even leave your garage.
If you are picking up mail from the mailbox and driving the 100 meters to your garage and didn't put the seatbelt on because it is a dead end 20km/hr street, it can be moderately annoying.
If you have passengers that are hearing-challenged (physically or metaphorically), it can be extremely annoying since they can't hear the chime nor your constant complaints for them to wear it.

I am sure people will come up with more scenarios to add to this list. In most of these cases, there are no safety concerns.
Anyway, to me personally the answer is simple, if you don't want to hear it, click it in or get some earplugs :D. I got used to the annoyance although sometimes it irks me a bit.

Knowing the Germans, probably the only way to disable it is to pull out the battery :shifty :rolleyes.

You're probably right, I'll have to check the next time I'm around a privately owned GT1.

I was stoked it wasn't an annoying chime like on most cars. The gong is kind of mellow compared to most.

You have an 08. It is much more annoying on the previous MY. The 08+ jingle isn't too bad nor is it too loud.
