I am getting ready to replace the stock muffler on my car. I am going with a racing muffler. Just wanting to know if I should remove the convert or not and why either way.

What is a "racing" muffler? Got a link?

Polar bear baby says please leave the cat on for me!

As someone who lives in a place that has 70% cleaner air primarily because of cats I think you should keep it on.

Keep it on. The only way I can justify removing it is if the car was going to be a track only car. If it's a daily driver it'll just be a high polluter and you'll need to put it back on anyways for a smog. Not worth it.

i cant post a link at this time as i am a new member. but its at matrixracing.com carbonfiber style silencer
i was wondering if it would decrease the back pressure and hurt the valves or something?

if your cat is anything like mine id remove it... mine smells like rotten eggs so im going to remove it when i get headers
we dont have smog here and honestly i could care less about what pollution i put in the air, i make up for it with my DD thats a corolla
honestly i think all this global warming stuff is BS... we just had our coldest july in the last 150 years of keeping records here... theres so many factors your cat wont matter

Why would you remove it?
You'll loose hp if you do.

its not worth removing , buy a universal high flow cat IIRC they are pretty cheap . it ll give ya what ya want more flow , while still being clean and compliant.

Of course you think it's BS, you live in Ohio. Spend a summer in southern Texas, then see how you feel. I could get into all the babble on whether or not it exists (it does) and how much humans are affecting it (unknown, but probably quite little), but this isn't the time or place.

Don't be a douche. Leave your cat alone.

Get a highflow cat if your going to, don't just remove it unless it's for track only.

Yeah, are you planning on putting this on your '89 535i? What happened to your integra?

The 1-2HP you gain isn't worth the pollution you cause.. If thousands like you say its only 1 cat, suddenly it becomes thousands of cats and the sky over our cities turns even more yelow than it is now!! Hi flow cats are great! Had one on my STi. Difference with v. without were like 1HP as I said

Keep em on or replace them. Don't be a jerk to the people who live in your city.

There are reasons to not pollute beyond global warming. You want clean air to breath. You want rain that doesn't corrode metal and kill plants when it falls. You want summers where you can go outside instead of being cooped up inside due to air quality. I don't believe in man made global warming either, but I still do my part to not pollute.

Good luck. 104 degrees and 98% humidity sucks.
But srsly, just replace the cat. It will probably end up being more of a hassle than leaving it out is worth.

I am old enough to remember what the air was like pre-cats. While at the shore it was always pretty nice 9except for the acid rain) going into philly was like getting black lung disease. EVERYTHING reaked and the air was a nasty brown colour.
Keep the cats
Aside from being idiotic, removing the cats is a Federal offense - it makes no difference what state you are in...

Keep it, no real good gains for the risk
