Ok, don't know how many people are following my saga on BC, but after almost 3 year I am very close to having a fully functional car...
If not, here is the link: http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4199

After 9 month in the body shop, a destroyed engine, an 18 month delay due to back and left & right knee surgery she is back on the road with a freshly refurbished M90 and a severe clean-up of the engine compartment and suspension.

After re-filling all the fluids, a quick jumper on the fuel pump to set the fuel pressure, a little bit of cranking with the distributor disconnected to prime the oil pump, she fired right up and sounds very healthy.

After letting her sit overnight, I removed the valve cover to re-torque the head bolts and to re-check the valve clearance, fired her back up and adjusted the timing 2º and the idle 150 rpms.

The modified Ireland Engineering exhaust sounds great, not as obnoxious as the Stebro, the quality is appropriate for the price, looks like the system is Made In Taiwan, jigging is nice, welds are presentable.

Next step is a trip to the body shop for some minor paint touch-up and to paint the M-Technik flares that have been floating way too long in the trunk without being used. Then a few more interior upgrades, just scored a usable set of rear head rests of EBay, ordered a custom leather hand brake leather cover and a better fitting leather kit for the early E21 sport wheel in 231 Natural...

Then it's of to PSF 2009...

Great to see this car back in business! I have been watching your thread on bigcoupe since the beginning. :)

Congrats Klaus for breathing a healthy dose of driving heaven into a magnificent car. The posts on BCg have been a source of much inspiration and education.

Happy motoring,

Great work Klaus! The adjustable fuel pressure regulator looks interesting. How long does the pressure take to drop back down to zero after shuttting off the engine? Curious.

Another question; You have the M-Technic flares. Will they fit your pre 1982 633 body with the smaller front fender flares or did you install later post 1982 e28 based sixer front fenders with the larger flares?

I'm now reading through the thread on BC. The pics of the car all crumpled up still make me physically ill to see.

Fantastic job on getting the car back together! I hope to see it again sometime.

Well, the fuel pressure regulator is a sore subject right now, after about 2 hours the diaphragm tore and flooded the intake through the vacuum line. Regulator was supposed to be rebuildable, the kit looks worth then the parts I pulled out. The reason why I decided to use an adjustable regulator was to insure that I can run the engine with the stock US ECU for smog reasons, I wasn't sure how lean everything would get at higher rpm's. So far I haven't seen much use for it, engine runs nice and rich at WOT.
The Pressure stays up for about 2 hours before you see a noticeable drop, rise is instantaneous during cold start.

The M-Technik flares are not a direct fit for the early front fenders, I didn't have any problems in the rear as I am using later quarter panels.
Some modifications need to be made to the front flares but the fit is not too bad after all.
I am still torn If I am going to use them or not, after mocking them up I think I like the stock fender design better, but it is hard to tell without paint on them.
