Guys..i have been looking at adding a deck spoiler for my 330i. The question is, do they ALL apply with simple double sided tape? i would prefer something that screws down, as i dont want it fly off and waste $300! or, maybe im wrong and double sided tape is stronger than i imagine. thoughts? experiences?
thanks

Use 3M double sided tape. It's very strong for what it is, and it definitely won't be flying off.

3M Exterior Mounting tape- it's what BMW uses from the factory and works for lip and roof spoilers. If you are worried about it, you can use BETA Link although I have unconfirmed reports that the 3M Tape works well above 155mph...not that I would test that theory on public roads ;)

The tape that comes with the spoiler is very suffiecient. Almost all spoilers are mounted that way.

Hello, does anyone have any pics theyd like to share of their E92 with a lip spoiler? I'm looking for one thats subtle, not too big but just enough to add a bit of sport to my coupe. Please include where you purchased/installed from.

Thanks in advance.

Does the M3 one fit?

I'm really not sure but probably. Could you direct me to some pictures that might show it? And if so should i go to BMW to buy it and have them install it?
Thanks.

Check out the pics in the many threads in the M3 section:

It is an easy DIY install with adhesive tape. You can get it from the dealer but I am not sure if aftermarket vendors also carry it, I think they might. Check our supporting vendor link for more info.

Here's a couple pics of my M3 spoiler. Love the way it looks, and +1 on the easy install.

It will Work as far as it not flying off , can easily be snatched off by a curious pedestrian. :(

Drilling holes in the trunk is not a good thing, it will cause rust and leakage into the trunk, thus why they use adhesive. Maybe Ford knows the car will rust and leak anyway ;).

Here are some photos of the E92 M3 Lip Spoiler we carry. This fits the standard E92s as they share the same trunk :)

You would think that but it actually took me a good 10-15 minutes to get my lip spoiler off. Once the tape adheres to the trunk, it requires a bit of work to get it off. Someone would definitely notice if your spoiler was getting stolen.

Is this an original BMW part? also, how difficult is it to have it aligned properly during the installation. It would seem theres no margin for error if i do this myself?

Thanks for your reply.

Very easy to put on, get the ones that have the 3m foam tape backing instead of the glue. I think I got mine M-Force Design on E90post. Since we aren't supposed to link there, just go and do a search for the E92 M3 spoiler.

The tips I have for putting it on:

Clean the area with something like Dawn soap to remove wax from the spot on the trunk where the lip will go.
I cut the wrapper on the tape in the middle, and pulled away so that the middle portion sticky is exposed and you have portions of the wrapper still covering the ends, with the wrapper sticking out.
Place the lip on the trunk. You can either align it to the trunk edge, or do like is done on the M3 and set it back from the edge ~1/2", so that the actual outer portion of the lip lines with the trunk edge (which is what I did, and IMO looks better).
Once you have the middle part stuck down, bend the lip ends to match the trunk curve and while holding remove wrapper and stick down.
Re-wax areas you cleaned with Dawn, and you are finished.

OH, and BTW, do the install in the sun, it will make the lip a little more pliable and easier to bend

Edit: If you really F-up, and already stick it down, you can use fishing line and slide it in between the lip and trunk to separate it. Then just use Goo-Gone to get rid of the sticky foam from the trunk and lip, buy some new heavy duty 3M double sided foam tape (with red wrapper) and do it again. If you use the Beta glue instead of tape, you will never get the lip off again.

raceyBMW is spot on with the installation procedure. Our lips are not OEM but molded after an OEM part with guaranteed fit and finish. We also guarantee the paint match :)

Just purchased a 2006 325i in Arctic Metallic for the wife and was looking to start the mods. I would like peoples option in regards to rear deck spoilers. Just wondering if people perfer leaving it plain, adding the M3 style spoiler or the larger OEM rear deck spoiler?:buttrock

Your thoughts would help in me choosing something or nothing. If you have pics of these spoilers on your car that would be great too.

Thanks

I prefer the cleaner look without it (either one).

I would do the M3 Lip Spoiler or the OEM Style Decklid Add On if she wants something more pronounced. Here are links that you can show her with photos:

It's not a bad choice either way, they are a nice subtle choice that I think works well. If you want something more noticeable, go with the OE styled, if you want more sport or subtle- M3 lip.

I chose the M3 lip spoiler b/c i think its subtle yet adds a sporty flair to the car. I didnt want anything bigger than that. But its all a matter of taste.
