Anyone got any advice about how to keep a neighborhood cat from climbing on your car at night? :help
My cloth top seems to be a favourite sleeping place.
I'm worried about cat claws as the cat walks across the car and about the possibility of it using my top as a scratching post and/or peeing on it. There's also the the issue of cat prints on my windshield/car and hair on the black top.
I tried searching, but "cat" is banned...

When I read "cats" I thought this was a thread about running straight pipes or something. As for protecting your car, I'd buy a nice car cover. To keep the cats off, I'd leave a bowl of milk in the vicinity but away from your car!

I don't have a bird or mouse problem anymore.
I'm fortunate to have a hard top I guess...
It would be cool if somebody created a car alarm to deter kitties (ie: a growling noise, or a nose sensative to just animals).
I just washed the car, and the birds did their biz on it 30 minutes later. Goldie (the kitty) was pissed. Welp, no birdy problems since :) ::

You don't even need to spray it on your top, spray it into a rag and throw the rag on your top. You can also try spraying around the car.. It works.

i love my kitty but it knows not to go anywhere near cars... neighbors cats on the other hand dont... two things that cats cant stand are cayenne pepper or citrus in the vicinity... lemon peels drive cats insane... so does some cayenne powder on the ground around it

Cool stuff!
Yea, I like having a local stray kitty, they hunt the small rodents, and can even lend a helping hand. Fortunately, this stray (Goldie) was fixed, so she does not mark her territory with that aweful smell ::

Putting on/taking off a car cover every day would be tedious. And it still might climb onto the cover - I'd think it'd make it more inviting and probably have to use it's claws as the cover isn't completely fixed in place.
Placing a bowl of milk or any food products might just encourage other animals to come by.
I'll try the cat repellent around my driveway, and thinking of spreading some black pepper on the top.
Killing is really isn't an option, if I saw the cat doing it, it wouldn't be doing it in the first place.

yea, i had this same problem over the weekend.
i parked my new Z4 in the garage with the top down, after throughly washing the car... and came out in the morning with paw prints all over it, and a bunch of hair in the passenger seat... i'm just happy the thing didn't piss in it or something.
if i find the cat.. it'll learn to stay out of my garage

Wait till you open the hood one day and have it jump out and scare the crap out of you.
I had this problem for awhile too but after just chasing him away a few times he stopped doing it. Or you can get a can of Hemi Orange spray paint what you do with it is up to you. :devillook

I don't know for sure, but I bet the black pepper would mess up cat's senses, and the repellent may become useless? And you'll have the pepper all over your car.
I think the kitty just likes your car the best, of the entire neighborhood. It's unfortunate for you, maybe take is as a compliment?
I think just the spray repellant would be your best approach.
haha - cook with less garlic and fish foods. The cat won't come around so often :).

Many years ago I got pissed-off from cat behavior all the time. My first bad experience was that awful spray smell, and the the older jealous cat framing the innocent kitten. The older cat was pooping on my bed every day after we got the kitten. The older cat loved to watch me try to dicipline the kitten for that.
Well, I've felt like an idiot for that framing of the kitten for 20 years now. The kitten was innocent.
For the spray part - spading cats will prevent that aweful odor when trying to mark their territory.
Be nice to the neighbors pets, and abandoned strays, and keep them healthy. Robert

Shoot it! A .177 break open air rifle will put it down real fast and quiet. Or use a havahart trap and bait it with sardines, then either submerge cat in trap under water, or place trap inside contractor bag, then place by your exhaust while engine is running, or relocate kitty far far away.

Dogs are my favorite of all pets. My dogs have to be restrained to the house and yard though, because of the dangerous roads in my area (they like to follow their noses).
The Goldie kitty is cool outside, and the dogs sort of like her these days (getting use to her). The dogs do get a tad jealous at times when Goldie catches the rodents first.

Fortunately, my Goldie is smart enough to not fall for such a trick. She been around banging hammers, drilling drills, greasy cars for a few years now.

Visit a natural food store and purchase Peppermint (Mentha Piperita) oil. It will not damage the conv. top and is guaranteed to keep cats away. They hate the smell of mint. And on a side note it works great on oriental carpets too.:D

About 2 weeks ago I went out on my porch late at night to have a cigarette and found the neighbors kitteh on my roof. Walked up to my car and it darted away before I even did anything. It knew the wrong it had done.

wait for winter. go for a long hard drive before nightfall, and park the car hot with the hood propped. cat will find the heat source and lay there, usually on top of your almost 1300 degree exhaust... morning comes melted kitty.
i know because I had to scrape melted kitty off someones cats before. (yea i know)

Question is how good will the spray(s) work, there are many kinds but I doubt you will suceed with spray.
Havahart trap is good but what you do with a mad cat inside the trap, need some kind of tranquilizer before you open the trap.
It is difficult in any way.

It's not my cat. Again, shooting won't work as I don't see the cat do it. Besides, what if you missed, try and buff that out! Not only that, the bullet would probably blow through the cat making more mess.
I like cats, but mine was always an indoor one.
I read, elsewhere that apples work. Put one on the car last night and it worked. Now, it might've just been that the apple was in the way, but whatever.

Apples? That's cool, but I wonder if you'll now attract squirrels or other rodents.. Oh, wait. That don't matter because the cat would actually take care of them! Sounds like a win to me..
And to those that are killing or suggesting the killing of domestic animals.. You are, or will be a serial killer..
Apples?!!! Can you please explain how that works?

LMAO!! Wasn't expecting that!
OP, if you could, just chase it away with a hose.
Or, if parked in your own driveway, mount a light that turns on with any movement. It might get scared away.

/sigh
I'm not scared of cats. If I saw the damn thing doing it, I'd scare one of its lives out of it. It happens at night while I'm asleep and I'm not gonna stay up all night camping my car for a freaking cat.
Anyways, the apple works. How does it work? Well, I don't exactly know, maybe cats don't like apples, try feeding some to one maybe?
As for additional rodents, it's not an apple slice it's a whole apple. If I come out and find a family of rats have taken residence on my top I'll deal with that.

I dunno if anyone suggested this or not, but you can buy some cayenne (sp?) pepper and just sprinkle it around where you park. That's what we've always used.
